Age-Old Baby Skin Myths Busted

It was the time when Radha came home from hospital with her newborn. Visitors would drop in, see the baby, comment on who he resembles, and leave. But before going, they all would give some advice or the other – : “Do not bathe the baby,” one would say. “Give oil massage, scrub with homemade bath powder, and bathe him every day,” another would say. “Do not use cream as his skin is tender.” “You should use moisturizing creams after bath to retain tenderness.”

When such contrasting advice could leave an expert confused, imagine a poor new mother! Often scores of mothers like Radha are over-whelmed by all the unsolicited advice that a new mother receives in India.

We understand how you wish your baby’s skin continued to be supple, soft and tender. But you cannot simply entangle yourself in myths, right? We help you bust such myths, which otherwise often cause dilemmas:

1. Your baby needs only water to wash its body in early life:

Water cleanses your baby’s skin, but only superficially. The dirt and germs that your baby would gather need deeper cleansing. Plain water wouldn’t keep your little one fresh for too long. Baby Dove Rich Moisture bar has a unique blend of cleansers and moisturisers that leave delicate baby skin soft, nourished, and delicately scented. With ¼ moisturising cream, this bar replenishes the essential nutrients lost during cleansing and helps preserve skin barrier function. ,.

2. Most baby soaps are good for your baby:

Not all are. While there are loads of baby soaps available in the market, you need to pick the right one that goes beyond mildness to replenish lost moisture. A soap with a high pH level can be very harsh on your baby’s skin. Most paediatricians recommend clinically proven and dermatologically tested soaps that are gentle on your baby’s tender skin. Soaps that are intended for use for children up to the age of three have to go through a detailed safety assessment. Also, your baby-soap must be pH neutral – something that not all soaps have.

To avoid confusion, we recommend the Baby Dove Rich Moisture bar that is paediatrician and dermatologist tested. The bar is pH neutral and hypoallergenic so as to minimise the risk of allergies.

3. Baby skin doesn’t need moisturising lotions:

It is believed that babies are born with smooth and beautiful skin and there is no need to moisturise it. But, did you know that a baby’s skin loses moisture up to five times faster than as adult’s skin. Use the Baby Dove Rich Moisture Baby lotion that provides superior moisturisation all day long leaving baby’s skin extra soft and delicately scented. In fact, using this lotion soothes your baby’s dry skin from the very first use.

4. Wearing diapers for long hours causes rashes in babies:

A clean diaper does not cause those rashes. A soiled diaper, if left unchanged, does that. You can avoid rashes by removing the dirty diapers immediately and clean the baby’s bottom with Baby Dove Rich Moisture Baby Wipes that are alcohol free and as gentle as water. They effectively remove the impurities while instantly moisturising a baby’s delicate skin. Immediately apply Baby Dove diaper rash cream. The cream neutralises pH in seconds and provides instant comfort from the first use. It provides immediate protection from diaper rash and is ideal for daily use. Follow this and you will never have to worry about keeping your baby in diapers.

5. Bathing your baby in milk is good for his skin:

It is an old wives’ tale that milk has a soothing effect on baby skin. However, it does not make much difference to your baby’s skin.

Therefore, do not go by hear-say. Think scientifically to protect your baby’s skin from unwanted treatments and remember, you know what’s best for your baby! Always trust your instincts.

We recommend that you choose Baby Dove products that are dermatologist and paediatrician tested. All products are hypoallergenic, pH neutral and gentle to the eyes with a mild and caring fragrance specifically developed for delicate baby skin.
