5 Exciting Art Activities For Your Teen

Here are some fun art activities for teenagers to try at home:

1. Designer Jeans:

You Will Need:

• A pair of jeans
• Liquid dishwashing detergent with bleach
• A bottle with a precise tip

How To:

• Fill up the bottle halfway through with the dishwashing detergent.

• Close the lid and use the detergent to make drawings, patterns or even write on your jeans. Now keep it aside for drying.

• Once your jeans are dry, put it in the washer and wash it in the regular cold cycle. Now put it in the dryer and let it dry. Once your pair of jeans is out of the dryer, the design marks will be prominent.

2. Jeans Pocket Purse:

You Will Need:

• Old jeans with a back pocket and working zipper
• Iron on patch
• Straight pins
• Scissors
• Needle and thread or sewing machine

How To:

• Cut out the back pockets but leave about one inch extra around each pocket. Remove the zipper from the jeans.

• Cut along the legs inseam. Make sure you cut the seam into one long strip.

• Sew the zipper at the top of both the pockets. Once done, open the zipper till halfway. Now fold the pockets, so that the zipper is on the fold. The right side of the pockets should be facing inward.

• Line up the side and the bottom of the pockets and pin them to hold in place.

• Trim the inseam to the length you want your purse strap to be. Take one end of the inseam and take it to the top of the purse just where you opened the zipper. Push it out of one side of the purse just below where the zipper is. Remove a few pins if necessary. Now do the same with the other end of the inseam.

• Stitch around the bottom and the sides of the pockets to make the purse. Cut out the extra corners.

• Put the patch and let your teen decorate the way she wants.

3. Necklace Pendant With Bottle Caps:

You Will Need:

• Bottle cap
• Jewelry bail with glue pad
• Glue
• Paper punch
• Glossy accents
• Decorative paper scraps
• Needle and thread

How To:

• Attach the jewelry bail to the bottle caps using the glue. Let it dry.

• Cut a piece of decorative paper using the paper punch. Use your glossy accents to glue the paper inside the bottle cap.

• Once it fits in place, apply some more glossy accents on the top to cover the paper completely. It will help thicken the paper. Let it dry overnight.

• Once it is dry, string it to a favorite necklace and wear.

4. CD Bowl:

You Will Need:

• Old CDs
• Aluminum foil
• Cookie sheet
• Decorative items

How To:

• Heat the oven to 325 degrees F.

• Cover the cookie sheet using foil. Make a small ball using more foil to serve as the mold for your bowl.

• Place the foil ball on the foil lined cookie sheet. Place a CD on top of the ball. The side of the CD that is facing the ball will form the inside of the bowl.

• Slide the cookie sheet in the oven. Heat until the CD softens and begins to fold around the foil ball.

• Remove from the oven once the CD takes the shape you want. Place it aside to cool and set.

• Remove the bowl from the foil ball and decorate the way you want.

5. Colorful Beach Towel:

You Will Need:

• Beach or bath towel
• Spray dye – as many colors as you want
• Contact paper
• Pen
• Scissors
• Paper towels
• Old newspaper

How To:

• On the white side of the contact paper, draw the letters you want on your towel. Cut them out.

• Cover the surface with newspaper and place the towel.

• Peel off the letters from the contact paper and stick them on the towel, wherever you want to place them.

• Spray the dye on the towel, creating designs and patterns. Let it dry.

• Pull out the contact paper to reveal your design.
