Mother Alert: Could Your Bathing Water Be Dangerous for Your Baby?

Anxious moms worry about some common baby troubles that don’t always go away. Baby rashes, which seem to reappear mysteriously is one of the chief baby troubles. Here’s a look at a first-hand account of the secret danger to babies that lurks in the form of hard water in most Indian homes, and how to address it.

How often do you bathe him? This was a regular question each time I took my now 6-months-old baby to the pediatrician. It was one of the questions on the development chart. My son simply loved to bathe and never fussed, unlike other babies. But my reason for those pediatric visits was something else – a recurring rash on my son’s skin. Despite the best treatments and lifestyle changes, it still found a way back. I was totally clueless until a random conversation with a friend. It was she who first brought up the topic of hard water and how it could probably be the hidden culprit.

Now, you must be wondering how can something as simple as hard water be behind my son’s condition, right? Let me confess that I held the same opinion too until now. This is because hard water has become so common in every city nowadays that it hardly gets noticed as something problematic. It was only when I did a little bit of research that I found out how exactly it affects us.

What My Research on Hard Water Threw Up

When our regular plain water has excessive content of calcium and magnesium salt ions, it becomes hard water. While these minerals themselves might not be the problem, they become so when they combine with the chemicals present in our soaps or shampoos. As it is, most toiletries contain chemicals that easily strip our hair and skin of the precious moisture while cleansing them. And when these chemicals bind with the excessive minerals in the hard water, they result in a layer “soap scum” that remains on the surface of our skin and scalp. This layer prevents the water from moisturizing our skin’s pores resulting in skin problems like eczema and hair loss.

When it can wreak such havoc on the adult skin, imagine what it does to the delicate skin of the babies? But how will you know if the water in your home is hard? Simple – check if your soap/shampoo lathers well, as it should. If it doesn’t, then it means the water is hard. If your hair gets sticky and skin gets dry after bathing, then the water is hard. Yellow deposits on the sides of your kitchen and bathroom sink are other indicators of hard water.

The Solution to Hard Water I Found

This little research of mine was a rude awakening for me. Suddenly, it was like getting an answer to all my hair fall woes and skin issues of my little angel. Yet, I had second thoughts about what I could do about it since hard water was common almost everywhere. Then my friend suggested that I use KENT’s Bathroom Water Softener. But wait, isn’t it the same company that manufactures drinking water purifier? Yes, it’s the same one. Like always, KENT has come up with a brilliant product that addresses the hardness issues of water. But let me tell you that despite the recommendation, I did not blindly buy this product. I checked various other bathroom water softeners in the market. Only when I was convinced by the several benefits of KENT’s Bathroom Water Softener like no electricity usage, easy installation, and Ion-exchange, that I bought it.

Once home, it fitted easily inside the little space in our bathroom. The team from KENT installed it free of cost. So how does it work? It simply runs on regular table salt. The potassium or sodium ions in the iodized salt exchange themselves with the calcium and magnesium ions of the hard water, turning it into soft water. All you need to do is recharge the bathroom softener with a fresh supply of salt as and when required. Isn’t it simple yet innovative?

This Water Softener Really Worked for Us

Ever since we’ve installed KENT’s Bathroom Softener in our home, my son’s skin condition has improved dramatically. And, I’ve lost count of the number days it has been since we last visited his pediatrician, except for regular vaccinations. My husband and I have also noticed a remarkable improvement in the texture of our skin and the volume of our hair. If you, too, are facing problems with hard water at your home, it’s time you got KENT’s Bathroom Water Softener too.
