Simple French Braid Tutorial: Step By Step Picture Guide

Braids are easy. They are versatile. They look elegant. They look classy. They are casual. And they would never, ever, go out of style. Braids can be made either inside out or outside in, tucked, or coiled. You can try any style out of braids and add a bunch of great variations to your hairstyle. One such form of braid is the French braid. 1. A Hairspray

3. Bobby pins
4. Elastic band

How To Make A French Braid

Start with dry or damp hair. You can try this hairstyle on both straight and curly hair. Start by brushing your hair gently with a paddle brush to smoothen it and detangle any knots. Apply some hair mousse on the mid-lengths of your hair (and not on the roots). This product will give extra volume to your hair and a shiny “just-washed” appearance. It is usually lighter on the hair, unlike gels that weigh your hair down and give them a crunchy look.

If you have thin or fine hair, then mousse is probably a must-have product for you as it gives an instant volume boost to the hair.

Brush all your hair backwards, and then, using your fingers, grab a chunk of hair from your hairline right over the crown.

Divide the piece into three even sections as you would do while braiding your hair normally. Start braiding.

Continue braiding, but every time you cross a section over another, take a small section of hair from the loose strands hanging on the same side and add it to the section that you will cross over.

As you will go down braiding, you will see that the number of strands loose will soon start diminishing and will get incorporated into the sections that you’re crossing over. And by the time you reach the nape of your hair, there won’t be any extra leftover hair to incorporate into the braid. So, now you can just start braiding your hair as you normally do. Easy, isn’t it!

Secure your fishtail braid with an elastic band and spritz a bit of hairspray on it to fix the hairstyle. Use bobby pins to secure any loose strands that you want to be tucked in.
