What are loganberries? In what can be called a happy accident, loganberries were born from the cross between blackberries and raspberries. Long ago, in the late 1800s, a gardening enthusiast James Harvey Logan took an interest in berries. Like many who loved blackberries, he too wanted to enjoy a superior fruit, cultivated to perfection. In time, his efforts in cross-breeding resulted in a delicate loganberry fruit.
Loganberries are a perfect combination of both the berry varieties. They have smaller seeds than blackberries and are slightly longer than raspberries. Loganberries are juicier and also have a sharper flavor. The fruit is dark red, but the best-flavored fruit are usually deep purple in color.

Loganberry Uses
It did not take very long for loganberries to become famous. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the fruit was widely preferred in Europe. As a descendant of blackberries and raspberries, loganberries can be interchangeably used in recipes that feature these fruits. They are delicious when eaten raw. If preferred, loganberries can also be prepared into syrups, jams, and juices. The berries are great additions to baked items and salads.
