4 Fun And Easy Hat Craft Ideas For Kids

Sometimes though, your kid may just take a fancy to a flashy new toy or a dress and may want you to buy it for her. Instead of giving into her demands and flashing your credit card at everything, you can easily make something for your kids at home.

How To Make Hats For Kids At Home:

While there are various styles of hats available that your preschooler can wear, here are two very fun and easy to make hats that your kids will love to wear:

1. Paper Sailor Hat:

You Will Need:

  • Newspaper
  • Transparent tape
  • Pom poms

How To:

  1. Take a page from the newspaper and it halfway horizontally.
  1. To make the hat larger, you will need to use a double page such as the one that comes in the middle.
  1. Fold the bottom edges of the paper.
  1. Tuck the edges at the corner and keep them in place by adding some tape.
  1. Add the pom poms to put some color and festive spirit to the hat.

2. Bright Clown Hat:

You Will Need:

  • Paper grocery bag
  • Red spray paint
  • 2 inch foam ball
  • Green chenille stem
  • Card stock in yellow, green and orange
  • Wide orange ribbon
  • A pair of scissors
  • Paint brush
  • Serrated knife
  • Craft glue

How To:

  1. Crumple and then open up the paper bag a few times so that it becomes a little soft. Roll the bottom upwards so that it resembles a brim.
  1. If you want to make the hat a little taller, keep the brim shorter, and vice versa.
  1. Spray the hat with the paint and set it aside to dry completely.
  1. Use the serrated knife to cut the foam ball in half.
  1. Once the hat is dry, place it upside down and glue one half of the foam ball inside, with the flat side facing down. Discard the other half of the foam ball.
  1. Let it dry completely and then turn it right side facing up again.
  1. Fold the chenille stem in such a way that one side is more in length than the other. Push the folded end into the top of the paper bag and poke it inside the foam piece.
  1. Cut two flower shapes from the yellow paper and two small circles from the orange paper that will fit in the center of the flowers. Cut out two leaves from the green paper.
  1. Glue the pieces together to make flowers and glue the flowers at the end of the stem.
  1. Take the orange ribbon and wrap it around the hat over the brim area. Tie it in a bow.

3. Big Bowed Hat:

You Will Need:

  • A regular party hat
  • A big bow
  • Glue

How To:

  1. Turn your kid’s regular party hat into a special and eye-catching hat by adding a big bow on the front.
  1. If you want to make the hat for a boy, add a funky moustache cutout in place of the bow.

4. Glittering Top Hat:

Here is how to make a hat for kids, that will stand out in a crowd. 

You Will Need:

  • A party top hat
  • Glue
  • Paint brush
  • Loose glitter
  • Old newspaper

How To:

  1. Place the hat on the newspaper and coat the entire hat with the glue using the paint brush.
  1. Now start pouring the glitter on the hat immediately, so that it starts to stick to the glue. Keep adding the glitter in layers so that it will cover the hat completely.
  1. Let it stand on the newspaper till the hat is completely dry.
  1. Once it is dry, lift it and shake off all the excess glue.
