Do you have to hide the blue and red veins on your legs with a concealer? Have you often wondered what they are and how could you get rid of them? Today, we take you through what spider veins are and how you can treat them by yourself in the comfort of your home.

Varicose or more commonly known as spider veins are swollen or sometimes twisted veins that usually appear just under the surface of your skin. (1) The appearance of these veins on the surface of the legs is quite common amongst most age groups. Veins have valves, which ensure that the blood flows only in one direction – upwards. When the blood travels from the legs towards the heart, valves prevent it from flowing backwards. This is necessary for the proper functioning of our body.

Why Do Spider Veins Appear?

Veins start showing their presence on our legs when these tiny valves that we just spoke about are damaged partially or sometimes fully. In some other cases, the valves are completely absent in the veins, leading to the development of spider veins. Due to the absence of valves, the blood does not flow upwards but starts accumulating in the veins that cause it to swell. The swelling increases if you stand or sit for a long time.

Treating Spider Veins With Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV is one of the most used kitchen ingredients for treating various health problems. It has also been found to be effective in treating spider veins. Moreover, it is easily available, cheap, and highly recommended for treating the varicose veins.

Apple Cider Vinegar To Treat Varicose Veins

For this, you will need:

  • A medical cloth or cheesecloth,
  • Apple cider vinegar

Method:

  1. Soak the medical cloth or cheesecloth in the apple cider vinegar solution and secure it around the lower legs or the thigh.
  2. Leave it in this position for 30 minutes and then slowly remove the bandage.
  3. Rinse your legs with plain water.

Apple cider vinegar, as most of you already know, is acidic in nature. Hence, it is advisable that you conduct a little test before applying it directly on the skin for treating varicose veins. If you have sensitive skin, the test is all the more important as you may develop a rash due to the use of this liquid.

If you want to derive better benefits of this treatment, it is suggested that you lie down on a flat surface, propping a few pillows just under the ankle. It will ensure that the blood does not flow downwards.

Apart from these methods, you can also try out several other ways of using apple cider vinegar to treat the spider veins.

Homemade Cream Of Carrot, Aloe Vera And Apple Cider Vinegar

Prepare a homemade cream using Aloe Vera, carrot and apple cider vinegar and apply it on the spider veins. Massage the cream for several minutes and leave it for half an hour. Later on, wash it off with warm water.

Apply Directly:

If your skin does not react negatively to the application of apple cider vinegar, you can apply it directly on the affected areas of the legs.

The direct application should be supplemented by internal consumptions. You should drink two to three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar twice a day. If you do not like the taste, you can dilute it with water and drink it just before having your meals. For a change of taste, you can also add one teaspoon of honey (preferably organic honey) to the water and apple cider vinegar mixture.

Regular topical application and internal consumption of apple cider vinegar helps alleviate the inflammation of the veins caused due to the accumulation of blood. Although the results may vary depending upon the extent of damage to the veins, a significant difference is visible within a few weeks.

How To Choose The Right Apple Cider Vinegar For Treating Spider Veins

The general vinegar that is usually used in cooking is not highly effective in treating spider veins. That is why you must buy pure apple cider vinegar from the chemist store. It must be unfiltered and unpasteurized because only such types of vinegar contain the mother of the vinegar – a muddy substance rich in essential nutrients and enzymes.

The best way is to buy a bottle of organic apple cider vinegar of a reliable brand. Check the labels to ensure that it is an unfiltered and unpasteurized variety of ACV.

With apple cider vinegar, you can bid adieu to unsightly spider veins, the natural way. Now you too can sport that mini skirt of yours with confidence and elan!
