Speaking of lemonades, the old-fashioned, classic variety is still the topper. It’s cool, it’s tangy, it’s quenching and definitely a treat for the heat-beaten, tired kids who have just stepped inside at the end of a long and hot day.

You Will Need:

  • 4 lemons
  • White sugar
  • Cold water
  • Ice

How To:

  1. Squeeze the juice of four regular sized lemons in a pitcher
  1. Add some sugar, grain or powder, and whisk
  1. When the granules dissolve completely in the juice, sprinkle some salt to taste
  1. Now add two mugs of cold water.
  1. Serve with ice.
  1. To garnish this drink, toss some lemon slices in the drink. Make sure to cut them real thin so that they float down the drink and not sink to the bottom.

You may also use a juicer to juice lemons of various sizes. Your children can prepare themselves a glass or two of the classic lemonade drink once in a while when you are not around.

Color is fun and when it’s added to drinks, it becomes twice the experience. Serve your child a glass of cool and nutritious glass of pink lemonade.

1. Hot Pink Lemonade:

Did you know blueberries in lemonades lend the most fascinating bubblegum pink color?

You Will Need:

  • Sugar
  • Filtered water
  • Two-and-a-quarter cup lemon juice
  • Blueberry pulp
  • Ice cubes

How To:

  1. Pour two cups of sugar in one cup of water.
  1. Collect the mixture in a saucepan, place it over flame and bring to boil.
  1. Stir it now and then to keep the solution clear.
  1. Pour in two and a quarter cups of freshly squeezed lemon juice to it, after removing from heat.
  1. Let it cool off while you prepare the base with cool water and ice in a pitcher.
  1. Now pour in the mixture and with it, three-fourth cup of crushed blueberries.
  1. Whisk until the color turns hot pink.
  1. Serve in glasses with ice cubes.

2. Strawberry Lemonade:

For a more natural, and should we say more soothing shade of pink, use strawberries. Give your child a break from shakes and smoothies, but do not chuck the fruits out of the diet. A cool pink serving of strawberry lemonade is an inviting change from the thick fruit smoothies, except that it is as much fruity as the former.

You Will Need:

  • One-and-a-half cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Sugar
  • Water, freezer temperature
  • Crushed strawberry
  • Mint sprig for garnish

How To:

  1. For this, you will need about 1 and a half cup of lemon juice, a yield from approximately 6 to 7 medium size lemons.
  1. Add a cup of sugar to the juice and volume it up with about 6 cups of cool water
  1. In a blender, crush the strawberries and filter out the seeds with a sieve
  1. Mix it all up and keep in the freezer to chill
  1. Spruce up each serving with a sprig of mint on top.
  1. Get the children to juice the lemons for you while you do the mixing.

1. Blueberry Lemonade:

The color blue in blue lemonades is no mystery to guess. It comes from blueberries.

You Will Need:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Lemon juice
  • Cold water
  • Blueberries

How To:

  1. While the recipe of making a lemonade drink with blueberries has already been laid out in the previous capsule, this one will focus better on the slight differences in the process.
  1. You will need the same water-sugar base, boiled until the sugar dissolves and the syrup thickens.
  1. What you need extra is some lemon zest for the wonderful flavor.
  1. Add that with water and the lemon juice that already extracted in a glass vessel.
  1. Once the solution cools off, add the blueberry puree.
  1. Stir well. The juice will react with the berry pulp to give out the delicious blue tinge.
  1. You would need to run the juice through a strainer to separate out the dreg.
  1. Chill it up in a freezer and serve with ice.

2. Raspberry Lemonade:

Another easy way of brewing up a fine glass of blue lemonade for your children is to go the carton juice way. Supermarkets often stock up the juice section with fruits that are colored to give the drinks a different appeal. In the same aisle, find a raspberry syrup that is blue in color.

You Will Need:

  • Bottled raspberry juice, blue in color
  • Fresh homemade lemon juice
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Ice

How To:

  1. Prepare a cup of lemonade with fresh lemon juice, sugar and water.
  1. Now pour in two tablespoons of the ready-to-drink blue raspberry juice.
  1. Add ice.
  1. Shake it up in a juice shaker and serve cool.

The blueberry juice gives the lemonade a light breezy blue to an ocean turquoise shade, depending upon the concentration. Top it with a mint sprig or fix a slice of orange on the glass edge. Throw in a straw or just let them sip away the lip-smacking coolness directly from the glass.

If you are in the mood to try out little experiments with the classic lemonade drink, feel free. For the punch you may combine something as fruity as strawberries with the hot jalepenos. Watermelon goes best with mint in a lemonade drink. Fizz it up with ginger to make it a little kicky. Ever tried the blackberry and sage combination? It rocks just as much as the honey and basil punch. Finally, for the ultimate cool lemonade, concoct it with cucumber and lemongrass.
