10 Interesting Math Activities For Preschoolers

One of the best ages to get your child interested in Math is preschool. Although, as a mom, you may feel that it may be too difficult for your tot to understand the concepts of math at his tender age, it isn’t!

1. Fishing Numbers:

  • Cut out a few fish shapes from different colored papers.
  • Draw a big number on each fish shape using a crayon, such as the numeric one, two, three, four, five, and so on. Put all the fish cutouts in a bowl.
  • Attach a small metal piece behind each fish shape. Take a string and attach a magnet at the end.
  • Now tell your preschooler that you want to see a particular fish. For instance, say something such as “I want to see fish number 1.” Help your preschooler fish out the fish cutout that has the numeric one written on it.

2. Beans In The Flower Pot:

  • Collect all empty toilet paper rolls and write numbers on each such as one, two, three and such.
  • Place some beans in a bowl and keep in front of the rolls.
  • Now ask your preschooler to add the related number of beans in each roll.

3. Food In The Egg Carton:

  • Take an empty egg carton and place a few small edible items in different bowls. Some edible items you can use that your preschooler likes are raisins, almonds, pistachios, cereal and such.
  • Ask your kid to add some items at each given time in each of the empty food slots.
  • Once your preschooler does it, you can ask them to start eating them. For instance, ask them to eat two raisins, one pistachio, three nuts, and so on.
  • This is one of the best preschool math activities that will help them to learn both addition and subtraction.

4. Join The Dots:

  • Make dots on paper using bright colors in the outline of numbers.

5. Number And Color Sorting:

  • Help your kid color groups of ten beans in different colors, such as reds, blues, yellows and such.
  • Get matching colored bowls and mix up the beans on a tray.
  • Now ask your preschooler to sort out the colored beans and add them to the matching bowls while counting them out. It can be one of the best fun math activities for preschoolers.

6. Counting Candies:

  • Clear out a counter and help your preschooler place one candy on the same.
  • Tell your little one that this is one candy.
  • Now give another candy and ask your preschooler to place it next to the previous one. Tell them that adding one candy to one candy gave them two candies.
  • Practice like this from one to three till your preschooler learns it perfectly. Move on to more numbers gradually. This is one of the simple math activities for preschoolers that will help them learn numbers in order.

7. Count With The Carton:

  • Take an empty egg carton that still has the lid on it and write out different numbers in sequence on the inside.
  • Now place a counter inside and close the carton.
  • Ask your preschooler to shake the carton and then open it.
  • Ask them to identify the number where the carton is placed.

8. Find The Numbers:

  • Clear out a big table or surface area.
  • Place a collection of items on the same that your preschooler is already familiar with. You can use items such as four dolls, two balls, three spoons, and so on.
  • Now ask your preschooler to find the given item along with the number, such as “Find the two balls” and so on. It can be the one of the best and easy math activities for preschoolers.

9. Building Blocks:

  • Take your preschooler’s building blocks and write out one number on each from one to ten.
  • Ask your little one to create a tower from one till five and six to ten, or one to ten. You can also reverse the order later.

10. Beading Numbers:

Place small beads in a bowl and place some strings near it.

  • Ask your preschooler to thread one bead on a string first, two on the second and so on.
