How Can Meftal Spas Be Used?

1. To Treat Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is painful menstruation that is accompanied by severe abdominal cramps. Research shows that the mefenamic acid in Meftal Spas can serve as a potent cure.

In a study of 35 patients with severe dysmenorrhea, treatment with 500 mg of mefenamic acid for every eight hours for three days showed complete improvement in the symptoms. In fact, 31 of the 35 patients experienced total relief from the painful symptoms (2).

In another study, comparison between honey and mefenamic acid led to interesting conclusions. Honey is often suggested as a natural remedy for pain. But in the study conducted on 56 female students, both honey and mefenamic acid showed similar amount of pain relief (3). Though honey has the upper hand as it is naturally available, the equal effectiveness of mefenamic acid is worth noting.

2. To Cure Fever

Studies showed that mefenamic acid could help reduce fever better than other popular treatment medications (like paracetamol or ibuprofen). Mefenamic acid was found to be more effective in children. The compound showed antipyretic (fever-relieving) activity even after 4 hours from intake, in contrast to paracetamol or ibuprofen (4).

3. To Treat Headache

Mefenamic acid was shown to treat menstrual migraine. In a UK study, 500 mg of mefenamic acid was found to treat headache during menstruation (5). But as the symptoms during menstruation can often be severe, we suggest you check with your doctor.

4. To Treat Acute Postoperative Pain

Mefenamic acid was also found to help ease postoperative pain. Patients who had undergone molar extraction, episiotomy, and orthopedic surgery showed significant reduction in their pain after intake of mefenamic acid (6).

It is evident that Meftal Spas can help relieve pain. It can also help women deal with menstrual issues better. But, it has certain side effects that you should be aware of.
