10 Octopus Crafts For Preschoolers

While the forgettable, and all to frequently misnamed, Dave the Octopus from Penguins Of Madagascar isn’t a character who the kiddies took to, make no mistake about it; octopi enthrall kids. With their eight tentacles and their dome-shaped heads, they are the perfect subject for arousing your child’s curiosity. And, if you have a Lil’ Munchkin at home who can’t stop pestering you about octopi, why they have eight arms and why they are round, you should consider getting him to make some brilliant Octopus crafts to further his learning.

10 Fun Octopus Crafts For Preschoolers:

1. Quilling Octopus Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Lots of strips of colorful quilling paper, such as blue, red, yellow, green, and orange.
  • Glue
  • White card paper
  • Colorful sketch pens

How To:

  1. Help your kid to make lots of coils out of the blue quilling paper and arrange them in a circular manner to make the head of the octopus as you see in the image. Use glue and join the blue coils next to one another and above and below one another to complete the head of the animal.
  1. Create several long loops out of the blue quilling paper and join them together vertically using the glue to make an arm of the octopus. Make all eight hands of the animal in the similar fashion and attach the end of each arm to the head of the animal completing the body structure of the octopus.
  1. Cut two eyes and mouth out of the white card paper and paste them on the head. Define them using the colorful sketch pens.
  1. You can make coils of red, green, yellow, and orange quilling paper of different sizes, and arrange them such that they make the cap of the animal. Place the quilling cap on the head of the octopus.

2. Balloon Octopus Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Eight long orange balloons
  • One big yellow balloon
  • Two small white balloons
  • Threads
  • A black marker

How To:

  1. Tell your preschooler to blow in eight long orange balloons and use them to form the eight arms of the octopus. Tie one end of each orange balloon with one another using the threads.
  1. Now, fill the air in one big yellow balloon and use it as the head of the octopus. Tie this big ball on the top of the joint of eight orange arms of the animal.
  1. Blow in two small white balloons and tie them below the head as the eyes of the creature.
  1. Mark eyeballs with a black marker. Also, create some black spots on the head with it.

3. Bell Pepper Octopus Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Two bell pepper
  • White rice flour
  • One wide bowl
  • Knife

How To:

  1. Spread a lot of white rice flour in a wide bowl.
  1. Use a knife, cut the upper quarter part of one bell pepper and use it as the head of the octopus.
  1. Place the head in the rice flour in the bowl vertically with its broader end at the bottom.
  1. Take the other bell pepper and cut eight long arms of the sea animal out of it vertically using the knife. Arrange the eight long pieces of the vegetable around the head making eight arms of the octopus.

Note:

Don’t let your kid use the knife.

4. Felt Octopus Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Green sheet of fabric
  • Pencil or marker
  • Scissors
  • Toy stuffing
  • Needle and thread
  • Wiggle eyes
  • A piece of black fabric

How To:

  1. Provide your preschooler, a lengthy green fabric, fold it in half, and guide her to draw an image of the octopus with its head and eight arms.
  1. Use scissors and cut two similar octopus-shaped pieces of the green fabric. Place both the pieces on each other and sew them using a needle and thread leaving a little gap.
  1. Insert the toy stuffing through the small room into the felt octopus and sew it correctly.
  1. Glue a pair of wiggle eyes on the head of the sea-creature.
  1. Cut a small triangle out of the black fabric and paste it as the nose of the octopus.

5. Clay Octopus Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Colorful clays, such as violet, green, red, white, and black clay

How To:

  1. Provide your preschooler plenty of violet clay and help her fashion a dome-shaped head and eight long arms of the octopus. Join the ends of the clay arms to the base of the dome.
  1. Make small round balls out of green and red clay.
  1. Place green spots on every arm of the octopus. Arrange red clay balls on the head of the sea creature.
  1. Create small white and black balls out of white and black clay, make eyes of the octopus and place them on the circular top of the sea octopus.

 6. Handprint Octopus Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Watercolors, namely orange and black
  • One wide bowl
  • One small bowl
  • Little water
  • White drawing sheet
  • Paint brush

How To:

  1. Put sufficient orange food color in a wide bowl and add little water to it
  1. Let your child dip her palm, thumb, and finger in the orange food color and make her handprint on the white drawing paper. Tell her to make three more finger prints around the print of her center of palm signifying the eight arms of the octopus. The center of the palm forms the head and body of the sea animal while the thumb and finger prints make its arms.
  1. Put little black paint and water in a small bowl and mix them.
  1. Use a paint brush and draw the eyes, nose, and mouth of the octopus on the palm print.

7. Octopus Mural Painting:

You Will Need:

  • One wall
  • Food colors, namely blue, black, white, and pink
  • Little water
  • Bowls
  • A wall painting brush
  • Black marker

How To:

  1. Put each food color, such as white, blue, pink, and black, in different bowls and add a little water to each bowl.
  1. Help your preschooler to draw an image of the octopus on a wall using a marker. Create the head, mouth, and eight long arms of the creature.
  1. Tell your child to paint the entire octopus picture blue using the paint brush and blue color.
  1. Color the mouth of the animal pink.
  1. Create a pair of eyes above the mouth by using black and white food colors and paint brush.

8. Octopus Kite Craft:

You Will Need:

  • One large sheet of green card paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Thick, long thread
  • A black marker
  • Small yellow card paper

How To:

  1. Provide your preschooler a large sheet of green paper, help her draw the circular head of the octopus one of the corners of the sheet, and cut the head out of the it using the scissors
  1. Draw eight long, vertical columns on the green sheet of card paper. Cut the green vertical strips with the help of the scissors.
  1. Paste one narrow end of each green strip on the bottom of the head of the octopus using the glue as you see in the image.
  1. Draw two small circles on the yellow card paper and cut them out. Use yellow circles as the eyes of the sea-animal and paste them on the head of the octopus.
  1. Use a black marker and create eyeballs. Also, make black spots on all eight green arms of the octopus.
  1. Tie a thick thread to the head of the octopus, and your octopus kite craft is ready.

9. Areca Nut Craft:

You Will Need:

  • One areca nut
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Blue card paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Cello tape or glue

How To:

  1. Place the areca nut on the table with its tapering end at the top. The kernel forms the head of the octopus.
  1. Guide your preschooler to draw eight vertical columns on the large sheet of blue card paper. Use scissors and cut out eight vertical strips out of the blue paper. The blue pieces make the eight arms of the sea creature.
  1. Use a cello tape and paste an end of each blue paper arm at the bottom of the areca nut.
  1. Glue a pair of wiggle eyes on the body of the kernel as the eyes of octopus.

10. Octopus Watercolor Painting:

You Will Need:

  • White drawing sheet
  • Pencil
  • Pink and brown food colors
  • A black sketch pen
  • Paint brush

How To:

  1. Guide your preschooler to draw an image of an octopus with the help of a pencil on a white sheet of paper. Sketch the head, eyes, mouth, and eight long arms of the sea creature.
  1. Make spots on the arms of the octopus.
  1. Now, help your child to paint the head and all eight arms of the octopus brown using the brown food color and a paint brush.
  1. Paint the spots on the arms and the tongue of the sea animal pink.
  1. Use a black sketch pen and paint the eyeballs black and define the eyes of the octopus.
