Makos Koukakis was born and raised on the island of Crete, Greece. Makos grew up in a home where food played a major part in every big event and occasion. His mother and grandmother were both great cooks and he learned everything about Mediterranean cuisine by watching them cook. In 2016, he started the food blog The Hungry Bites where he shares traditional and modern Mediterranean recipes and desserts.When Makos cooks, he prefers to use local, seasonal vegetables and fruits, a lot of herbs and spices and extra virgin olive oil. He believes that when we cook our own meals we can see and realize exactly what we put inside our body, something that leads to healthier options. Makos graduated from the School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering (SRSE), the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2013. In 2016, he completed his master's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
