DHA, or dihydroxyacetone is the main coloring agent in self tanning bottles. It is a color additive that gives the bronze effect to your skin. DHA is the only such agent that has the approval from US FDA for use in manufacturing cosmetic products. It is a safer option than sitting under direct UV rays that cause cancer.
There are no specific studies to show that DHA is harmful when you apply it topically on your skin. Self tanners contain a safe amount of DHA that is nontoxic and noncarcinogenic too. While you may want to go for a tan while you are pregnant, it is important to be a hundred percent sure that it will not cause any harm to your unborn baby or you.
