Satyananda yoga is internationally acclaimed and was developed by a modern art yoga master, Swami Satyanand Saraswati. This is one such form of yoga which includes all the major branches of yoga like bhakti yoga, pranayam, hatha yoga, raja yoga, etc. The main aspect of this form of yoga is that it is one of its kinds.

1. Asana:

Asana is an important aspect of yoga. One has to master yoga asanas to successfully practice Satyananda yoga. Benefits of doing asanas include flexibility, improved health and mental stability. Bhujangasan, Dhanurasan, Padmasana, Paschimottanasana, Shalbasana, Majrasana, Swastikasana, Tadasana, Vajrasana are various forms of asanas that are included in Satyananda yoga. Asanas help you to relax your body and make it more supple and energetic. After doing asanas, a new energy flows throughout your body which gives you a good feeling.

2. Pranayama:

Breathing is again a vital component of Satyananda yoga. One has to have full control over his/her breathing. While doing yoga, you should be able to understand very well when to inhale and when to exhale. If you are able to get that right, then definitely you can do pranayama properly.

While practicing pranayama, one must have a sound knowledge of mudras. The energy which is created while practicing meditation or pranayama is transferred to our body through mudras. That is why one needs to have a good knowledge of mudras.

  • While doing mudras, touch the tip of your hand’s index finger with the tip of your thumb. Keep the other three fingers straight. This is the perfect mudra while practicing pranayama or chanting ‘OM’.

Follow these simple steps to practice pranayama at home:

– Keep both the nostrils open and then inhale and exhale with both the nasal passages. This type of pranayama is quick breathing with both the nasal sides. One should inhale and exhale at maximum speed.

– Try doing the above-mentioned mudra and then close the right nostril, and inhale with the left nostril, and then immediately close the left nostril and exhale with the right nostril. In this way try breathing by changing the nostrils.

Practicing pranayama daily helps you to achieve mental peace. It also refreshes your body and soul.

3. Meditation:

In Satyananda yoga, there are various meditation techniques which you can practice. Also, mudra is very important while meditating. Mudra creates a positive energy which then gets transferred to your body once you complete your meditation.

Practicing meditation everyday helps you to get rid of stress; it increases your concentration levels and makes you more aware of your mind and soul. It teaches you the perfect way of living life.
