Scotch eggs can steal the show if you know how to make them properly. Be it a potluck, a party, or a picnic, you can stand out by making yummy Scotch eggs with minimum effort. The classic Scotch eggs are the best, but we have taken the liberty to add some new ingredients to make them more exciting. Here are 15 yummy Scotch egg recipes.

1. Classic Scotch Eggs

Prep Time: 30 min;  Cooking Time: 15 min;  Total Time: 45 min;  Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 500 g sausage meat
  • 4 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 4 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon English mustard
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons flour for dusting
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • Salt to taste

How To Prepare

  1. Boil the eggs in a pot of water for 4-5 minutes. Transfer them to a pot of cold water. After they have cooled, peel the shells.
  2. Transfer the sausage meat to a large bowl.
  3. Add the herbs, salt, pepper, mustard, and nutmeg. Mix well and divide into medium-sized balls.
  4. Transfer the flour to one bowl and the breadcrumbs to another bowl.
  5. Whisk the eggs in a separate bowl.
  6. Dust your hands with the flour and flatten the meat balls using your fingers and palms.
  7. Put the boiled egg in the middle of the flattened patty and gently shape the meat around the egg.
  8. Gently roll the Scotch eggs in the flour, dip them in the egg, and coat them evenly with the breadcrumbs.
  9. Heat the oil and fry the eggs until they turn golden brown.

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • ½ cup ground liver
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 ½ cups olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt to taste

How To Prepare

  1. Put the eggs in a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Boil them for 4-5 minutes and then transfer them to a pot of cold water. When they cool down, peel the shells.
  2. Add chopped onion, garlic paste, chopped parsley, smoked paprika, and salt to the ground liver. Mix well and divide into six balls.
  3. Transfer the flour and breadcrumbs to two separate bowls.
  4. Dust your palms with the flour and flatten the ground liver using your fingers and palms.
  5. Pop the egg in the middle and shape the liver all around the egg evenly.
  6. Roll them in the flour, dip in the beaten egg, and give a final coat of the breadcrumbs.

  • 2 large beaten eggs
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic

How To Prepare

  1. Put the eggs in a pot of water and bring it to a boil for 3-4 minutes. Then, transfer them to a pot of cold water. After they cool down, peel the shells.
  2. Mix the spinach with mashed potato, garlic, smoked paprika, gram flour, rice flour, coriander leaves, and salt.
  3. Divide this into eight equal sized balls and press with your fingers and palms to flatten them.
  4. Pop the eggs in the middle and cover them evenly with the spinach mixture.
  5. Gently coat the Scotch egg with flour, dip in the egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat the oil and fry the eggs until they are golden brown.

 How To Prepare

  • 6 eggs
  • 2 whisked eggs
  • ½ cup boiled corn, crushed
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese

  • ¼ cup chopped parsley

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup whole wheat flour

How To Prepare

  1. Boil the eggs in a pot of water for 7-8 minutes. Drain the boiled water and add room temperature water to the pot to cool the eggs down. Shell them and keep them aside.
  2. In a bowl, add crushed boiled corn, cheddar, parsley, dried oregano, smoked paprika, whole wheat flour, salt, and two tablespoons of water. Mix well and make a dough.
  3. Divide the dough into six parts and roll them using your palms to make dough balls.
  4. Flatten the balls by pressing them.
  5. Pop the egg in the middle of the dough and cover it with the dough evenly. Refrigerate it for 20 minutes.
  6. In the meanwhile, in another bowl, mix all-purpose flour and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Heat the oil in a pan.
  8. Take the Scotch eggs, dip them in the whisked egg, and coat with mozzarella cheese and all-purpose flour mix.

  • 6 boiled eggs
  • 2 whisked eggs
  • 2 boiled eggs, mashed
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • ½ cup grated cheddar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons chopped chives
  • ½ cup finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 3 tablespoons corn flour
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup potato, boiled and mashed.

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

 How To Prepare

  1. Cut the boiled eggs in half. Take out the yolks carefully and toss them into a large bowl.
  2. Add the mashed eggs, yogurt, cheddar, soy sauce, chives, red bell pepper, black pepper, one teaspoon of oil, and salt to this bowl. Mix well.
  3. In another bowl, mix mashed potato, parsley, and salt. Divide this mix into six parts and flatten them using your palms.
  4. Now, stuff the eggs without yolk with the egg mixture.
  5. Pop the stuffed egg halves in the middle of the flattened mashed potato mix and cover them evenly with the potato mixture.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the whisked eggs with corn flour.
  7. Coat the Scotch eggs with all-purpose flour, dip them into the whisked egg, and then coat with breadcrumbs.

  • 2 whisked eggs
  • 1 cup chickpeas
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for rolling
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

How To Prepare

  1. Put the eggs in a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Boil for 5-6 minutes and then put them in a pot of room temperature water to cool them. Shell the eggs and keep them aside.
  2. Add one tablespoon of olive oil in a pan and sauté the garlic and onion.
  3. Add the sautéed garlic and onion in a blender and blitz into a paste.
  4. Add the chickpeas, coriander powder, cumin powder, coriander leaves, and a little salt. Blitz it to make it into a chopped consistency and not a paste.
  5. Add the whisked eggs, one tablespoon of breadcrumbs, black pepper, and flour to the chickpea mixture and mix well.
  6. Divide the chickpea mix into eight parts and flatten them using your palms.
  7. Pop the boiled egg in the middle of the flattened chickpea mixture and cover it evenly.
  8. Coat the Scotch eggs with breadcrumbs and sesame seeds.
  9. Heat the oil and fry the eggs until they are golden brown.

10. Green Pea Scotch Eggs

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs hard boiled
  • 300 g sausage
  • ½ cup chopped spring onions
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh thyme
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 whisked eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup cooking oil

How To Prepare

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add sausage, spring onions, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper to taste.
  2. Using your hands, mix well to ensure even spread of the spices.
  3. Divide the mixture into six equal portions and flatten them into 5-inch circles.
  4. In a large plate, add flour. Season generously with black pepper.
  5. Dredge the boiled eggs in the flour.
  6. Place one egg into each of the sausage circles and wrap them with the sausage.
  7. Place a deep frying pan containing cooking oil on medium to high flame.
  8. Dip each sausage-wrapped egg in the beaten egg and roll carefully in breadcrumbs until the sausage is covered completely with the crumbs.

How To Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 200C.
  2. In a large bowl, mix sausage with walnuts and maple syrup using your hands.
  3. Divide into seven equal portions and shape them into patties.
  4. Place one egg each on the sausage patties, gently molding the meat into wraps.

  8. Place one hard boiled egg at the center of each patty and wrap it slowly to cover the eggs.
  9. Roll in chopped nuts and allow it to chill thoroughly.
  10. Place the eggs in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes.
  11. Take them out and allow them to cool for about 5 minutes.
