10. Pigmentation:

Once you are pregnant, you may notice some dark patches on your skin. These are most likely pigmentation spots, which are a sign of pregnancy. It is also called the Mask of Pregnancy or melasma. During pregnancy, your body secretes a greater amount of the hormone melanotropin. It causes pigmentation over your nose, cheeks, forehead and the areas around your eyes. Sunlight can further worsen the condition. In most cases, it will go away after delivery (10).

11. Dark Line Of Hair On Body:

Sometime around the third month, you will notice a dark line of hairs in the front part of your body. It will mostly be a thin line of hair from the pubic bone towards the top of the uterus. If you have been pregnant earlier, the line may appear much before (11).

12. Acne:

The pregnancy signs include acne too. Pregnancy can often bring back your spells of acne. You may suddenly suffer from acne and also have great glowing skin. On the other hand, your skin may be riddled with acne and also be oily and patchy. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated. Use products that work well for sensitive skin. If the problem persists or worsens, speak to your doctor about it (12).

13. Itching Sensation On The Skin:

When you are pregnant, you will experience mild itching sensations on the skin. It happens due to the increase in blood supply to your skin at this stage. Wear loose and comfortable clothes. Ensure the fabric is soft and breathable, as it will help prevent the itching to worsen. Speak to your doctor about certain pregnancy creams that can prevent or reduce itching. In case the condition gets severe, speak to your doctor as it could be a condition known as obstetric cholestasis (OS) (13).

14. Stretch Marks:

Stretch marks are one of the most common skin changes you will notice during pregnancy. They will show up sometime around the second or third trimester. Most of the stretch marks will be on your lower abdomen. In some cases, you may also notice these on your thighs, arms, breasts, and hips (14).

15. Spider Veins:

Spider veins are very common during pregnancy. When you are pregnant, your body produces a larger amount of the hormone estrogen. As a result, you notice the sudden breakout of veins all over your body. Once you deliver your baby, the spider veins will slowly fade away. Speak to your doctor if you still see them few weeks and or even months after your delivery (15).

16. Palmar Erythema:

In some cases, you may notice redness on your palms. When you are pregnant, the amount of the hormone estrogen in your body increases and causes the redness (16).

17. Leakage From The Breasts:

You may notice a slight discharge from your breasts in the first trimester. Some women also experience the same as early as the first few weeks of pregnancy. If you notice a discharge from your breasts, it is most likely colostrum. It is the first milk that your body prepares before your baby arrives. It is completely normal and you don’t have to worry about it. If you experience a lot of leakage, wear nursing pads to absorb the same (17).

18. Sudden Cravings:

When you are pregnant, you may suddenly want to eat a new flavor or a dish you didn’t like till now. Or, you may suddenly want a particular flavor of ice cream in the middle of the night! You can have a craving at almost any time throughout your pregnancy. Make sure to stay away from harmful foods no matter how strong the craving is. Also, avoid overeating, as it could make you feel sick.

19. Dry Skin:

You may notice that your skin feels drier when you are pregnant. The various changes in hormonal levels, lack of sleep or fatigue can all add to your skin dryness woes. Various home remedies will help take care of your skin dryness. You should also drink plenty of water and liquids to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. If the conditions worsen, speak to your doctor about safe topical treatments (18).
