10 Fun & Easy Starfish Crafts For Preschoolers

Starfish are an all-time favorite among kids. You may find your little fish lover surprised at the sight of starfish at a beach and asking you ‘Why is that fishy shaped like a star?’. Well, here is an excellent way to answer all his doubts, and help him have some fun. 10 Fun & Easy Starfish Crafts:

1. Felt Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Colorful felt of any color e.g. yellow
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Red piece of fabric
  • Toy stuffing
  • Black marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How To:

  1. Fold the yellow fabric in half, and help your little fish lover to draw an outline of the starfish on it using a black marker.
  1. Cut the starfish design out of the fabric using a pair of scissors. So, you have two similar star-shaped pieces of yellow fabric.
  1. Guide your child to place both star-shaped pieces over each other and sew them with the help of a needle and thread leaving a small gap.
  1. Insert the toy stuffing through the small space into the felt fish and sew the hole.
  1. Now, glue a pair of wiggle eyes on the fish to decorate it.
  1. Cut out a ‘smile’ out of red fabric and paste it below the eyes.

2. Fruits’ Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Pineapple
  • Knife
  • Lettuce
  • Serving plate
  • Red cherries
  • Slice of cheese

How To:

  1. Place a couple of leaves of lettuce on a serving plate.
  1. Use a knife and cut a star shape out of a piece of pineapple. Place the star-shaped piece on the lettuce leaves.
  1. Cut the slice of cheese into smaller star shape than the pineapple’s shape, and put it in symmetry on the star pineapple piece.
  1. Decorate the fruit craft by putting two red cherries on the cheese piece as the eyes of starfish and three cherries below the eyes as the smiling mouth of the fish.

3. Starfish Santa Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Five plastic rods of equal sizes
  • Red fabric
  • Cotton
  • Wiggle eyes
  • Glue
  • Black, orange, and white food colors
  • Paint brush

How To:

  1. Cover each of the plastic rods with red fabric, and stick the fabric on every bar using the glue.
  1. Create a shape of a star by arranging the five red sticks and glue them in the center making a red starfish.
  1. Now, paste a small ball of cotton on the top of the red hand of the fish that points the sky making the cap of the Santa Claus.
  1. Glue a pair of wiggle eyes on the same top rod below the cotton ball.
  1. Make the cap’s circumference and bread of the Santa using the white cotton. Paste the bread below the pair of eyes and stick the cap’s circumference above the eyes.
  1. Mix orange and white food colors creating skin color, and paint a little area surrounding the eyes with the skin color using a paint brush.
  1. Form four small cotton balls and put them on the other four red rods such that the hands and legs of the Santa have white cotton rings as you see in the figure.
  1. Paint ends of the bottom two red legs of Santa black marking his shoes. This is simple and yet fun to do starfish craft for preschoolers.

4. Clay Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Pink clay or red clay

How To:

  1. Provide your kid ample of pink clay, and guide her to shape the clay creating the form of starfish.
  1. Make small balls of the pink clay and place and press them on the clay starfish.
  1. You can also make the unique flat fish out of red clay and create beautiful lines on its body.

5. Candy Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Five blue colored chocolate candies

How To:

  1. Provide your little starfish admirer five blue chocolate candies and help her arrange them in the shape of a star.
  1. Bring one end of each candy in the star shape in the center, press all the ends, and fuse them creating the candy starfish.

6. Plaster Colored Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • A ball of plaster
  • Water
  • Marker or rod
  • Paint brush
  • Red paint

How To:

  1. Give your kid a ball of plaster and make its surface little wet by sprinkling some water on it.
  1. Now, use a marker or stick and outline the star shape on the top of the plaster ball.
  1. Use red color and paint brush and paint the inner part of the star shape on the plaster red as you see in the image.

7. Colorful Craft Paper Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • Blue and yellow sheets of craft paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Glitter

How To:

  1. Help your little learner to draw a star shape on the blue craft paper using a pencil.
  1. Use scissors and cut the star shape out of the blue sheet.
  1. Draw a smaller star shape than the blue one on the yellow craft sheet, and cut it out correctly.
  1. Place the small yellow star shape on the big blue star in symmetry. paste it, and craft paper fish is ready.
  1. You can add a bit of glue on the upper part of the Starcraft paperwork and sprinkle little Glitter to decorate the starfish.

8. Beaded Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • One long, bendable wire
  • Lots of white and red beads
  • Glue
  • Needle and thread (optional)

How To:

  1. Provide your child a long, bendable wire and help her bend it and create a star shape out of it.
  1. Put in white beads through the one open end of the wire such that all edges of the starfish are white.
  1. Put in red stones in between the white such that only corners of the star are red. Later, seal the open end or fix it with gum.
  1. You can cut the remaining wire in a small circle that fits inside the star and attach it to star with the help small pieces of wire and glue.
  1. Weave in white beads in the middle ring and red stones in the attaching pieces of wire as you see in the figure.

9. Thermocol Starfish Craft:

You Will Need:

  • One thick sheet of thermocol
  • Pencil
  • Knife
  • Red food color
  • Paint brush
  • Glue

How To:

  1. Provide a thick layer of Thermocol to your kid, and guide her to draw a star shape on it using a pencil.
  1. Use a knife and cut the star shape out of the sheet.
  1. Tell your kid to paint the entire Polystyrene starfish red by using the red color and paint brush.
  1. Now, make small Polystyrene balls out of the sheet, place them on the starfish craft, and paste them with the help of glue.

10. Starfish Gift Box Topper:

You Will Need:

  • Red and white sheets of tissue paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Gift box

How To:

  1. Draw a star shape on the white tissue paper, and cut it out using the scissors.
  1. Trace the white star shape on the red tissue paper, and cut out the star out of the red sheet.
  1. Paste red star on the white using the glue.
  1. Put a little glue on the red surface, sprinkle Glitter on it, and complete the starfish gift box topper.
  1. Glue the tissue paper starfish on a gift box with the red surface facing upwards.
