You know it’s the holiday season when you get to spend quality time with your family. How do you do that? You could share delicious meals together, spend time with each other while cooking them, and even dedicate a few days (maybe a weekend) to travel around a few places close to your house. This year, with the pandemic still in harm’s way, it’s best to try and stay indoors. But wait, before you get upset and disappointed about not being able to go out to celebrate the festive season, hear us out! You don’t have to go out to celebrate because we are here with ten awesome Thanksgiving games that’s perfect for playing with your family indoors:
1. Pumpkin Checkers
If you love to play checkers and are an undefeated champion among your cousins, why not add a little mix of Thanksgiving to it? Paint thirty-two squares on a large piece of wood (preferably around thirty inches) with craft paint. Use mini pumpkins, both white and orange, like game pieces, and voila — you have your very own life-size pumpkin checkers!
2. Spin The Pie
Like Spin The Wheel but the Thanksgiving edition! Using a paper plate, mark the middle as the center to facilitate spinning. Then section the plate into six segments and label each of them with a topic — for example, Family, Friends, Travel, Pet, Work, and Home. Now, cut a smaller round to fit the middle and make it spin. Don’t forget to cut out one section to reveal the category. If making the whole thing is too much work for you, you can also visit a nearby toy store which has a “spin the wheel” like game. You can bring it home and just paint over it to give it more of a Thanksgiving theme. Go on and get spinning!
3. Tic Tac Toe
Remember the game we all played as kids instead of paying attention in class? Yup, we are talking about tic tac toe, but this is the turkey edition! Instead of using Xs and Os, you can cut our different types of turkeys. Make two kinds of turkeys, color them differently or make them look different. Choose a team and go for it. The game rules remain the same — whoever gets the same turkey in a straight line (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) wins the game!
4. Bingo! It’s Thanksgiving!
Bingo is one of the most fun party games ever! The best part about it is that it is suitable for all age groups. That means even your grandparents, who are probably too old to run around, can partake in your family games! Print out a chart with all the elements of Thanksgiving and make a day of it — it’ll be epic!
5. Hand Turkey Race
Easy, fun, and super exciting, this one’s a definite winner! Time everyone as they use their creativity and draw out the perfect hand turkey. The person who finished the turkey first wins! To make things interesting, provide everyone with the same art supplies. You could also set aside a few minutes (say 10 minutes) before beginning the game to allow the participants to collect natural outdoor items like dry leaves, twigs, flowers, mud, or anything else that might be useful for a colorful turkey. Let creativity take shape!
6. Thanksgiving Charades
Charades are always a fun and engaging activity for everyone in the family. Make it an exciting game by adding a list of Thanksgiving-themed items, including food names, games, themes, historical stories, songs, etc. Without using words, teams have to guess the things in the chit in a limited amount of time. We guarantee that you and your family will have a great time during the game!
7. Feed The Turkey
This is probably the easiest game that would be best suited for your toddler, Feed the Turkey is just what you need to keep them busy. Use an old bottle and decorate it to make it look like a turkey. Now use colorful thermocol balls as turkey food. The goal is to feed the turkey as much food as possible. After all, you want your turkey to be fat and full of flesh!
Your little one will have fun feeding an animal though not a real one. This might help them develop a fascination with other birds and animals in the future.
8. Race Away
Another fun activity for the kids in your house, a Thanksgiving race, makes a perfect game! You can use raw sweet potato or yam for the game. Hand these food items to your kids (one each) and make them stand in a straight line. Now make a start and finish line and let your kids roll their specimens (yam/sweet potato) to victory! The one to roll their respective item to the finish line first takes home the prize. And it’s a lot harder than it sounds, but it’s that much fun too!
9. Gratitude Game
Since it’s Thanksgiving, playing a game that sums up everything you’re grateful for seems perfectly apt. Assign colors to categories that help you reflect on the different things you are thankful for, and pick colors at random to express your gratitude.
10. Family Feud
Who knows whom the best? If you have a family of quiz-ards, it’s the perfect game for you! Make a list of questions, form teams, and start the quizzing! You can form teams as adults versus kids or female versus male. If possible, you can also add elements of games like “never have I ever” or “monopoly” to the gameplay. Every member, big or small, can take part in this game which makes it all the more fun. Also, it’s the perfect game to understand who knows the family best.
