6 Tips To Sleep Better While You’re Pregnant

Having a full night’s sleep during pregnancy can seem like a far-fetched dream (pun intended!). As you move further along the pregnancy, your baby bump will get bigger and the kicks are going to become stronger. In fact, you might even feel the urge to urinate quite frequently. All this, of course, implies that you might not get much time to sleep during the night.

But, if it is any consolation, you are not alone in this. It is pretty rare for an expecting mom to sleep peacefully through the night. In fact, it is so much so that many people say that this is nature’s way to train a mom for the hectic time lined ahead for her.

Have you recently found yourself wondering whether there is any way that you can sleep more peacefully? Don’t worry, you don’t have to look farther. Here, we bring you some of these tips:

1. Gulp It Down In The Day

Drink lots and lots of fluids during the entire course of the day. It is vital to keep yourself hydrated. But, you might want to cut down on the fluid consumption later on in the night to help reduce the frequent nighttime washroom visits.

2. Try To Stay As Active As Possible

Indulge in some physical activity. You might be tempted not to but a little exercise can help with the circulation, which in turn, can reduce your leg cramps. Even the ones that happen during the nighttime. The reduced nighttime cramps might eventually help you in sleeping more soundly. However, remember not to exercise right before bedtime. Doing that can release adrenaline, which might end up keeping you wide awake all night.

3. Clear Up Your Head Before Sleeping

We all know that anxiety and stress can be the biggest culprits when it comes to sleepless nights. Remember that so much stress is not going to be of any help. Whereas, opening up to someone can help you. Look for a friend or even a medical professional who can aid you with all the problems that you have been facing. You can also indulge in other rejuvenating activities like yoga and meditation but just keep away from stress.

4. Adopt A Bedtime Routine

All you need to do is set up a soothing, comforting, and consistent evening routine. And, you will automatically be able to unwind and drift off into a deep slumber. Be it reading a chapter of some nice book, taking a warm bath, or even getting a shoulder or back massage, you can incorporate any of these into your routine to ensure a better sleep.

5. Catch Some Sleep During Daytime

You have been trying really hard to sleep during the night but it is still not happening. Don’t worry; just try and take a nap during the day to keep the fatigue at bay. You can sleep for 20-30 minutes on weekends or even try to squeeze in the nap during a working day. But, don’t take long naps since they can end up making you feel even more tired than you were already.

6. Cherish The Quiet

And, if everything else fails, embrace the wakefulness. For example, if you have woken up in the middle of the night, you can practice a little bit of deep breathing while keeping your hands cupped on your belly. Imagine your little one having a good night’s sleep inside you. You might even want to sing a lullaby to your baby. Maybe, you will feel a little drowsy on your own and drift off to sleep.

We know how precious sleep is. And, having to compromise on that can tire and exhaust you. But, if you keep all the worries away and just do the aforementioned things, it might just work. So, incorporate these suggestions into your daily routine and let us know how it works for you in the comments section below. Good luck!
