1. Salar Jung Museum
The Salar Jung Museum is one of the National Museums of India. It was initially a private museum when it was opened in 1951. It became a national museum in 1961 and since, has attracted over a million visitors as of 2009. 4. Charminar
The Charminar is a landmark and a global icon that represents the city in the country and the world. The structure has four minarets joined by massive arches, with each tower standing at 20 meters tall. Many theories are surrounding the real reason for constructing this structure. Some say it was to mark the end of a great plague, while others say it was to commemorate the starting of a new Islamic year. 5. Golconda Fort
The Golconda Fort was the capital of the Qutub Shahi Kings before they moved to Hyderabad. The fort, built on rock, is spread over an area of 4.8 kilometers and is 130 meters high. The fort contains ruins, mosques, and tombs of the Qutub Shahi rulers. The fort was originally built in the 11th century and was fortified and strengthened later in the 16th century. Set aside at least two to three hours to explore the fort with kids.

The tombs are the final resting place of the kings of Golconda and are among the oldest monuments representing the Persian, Pathan, and Hindu architectural styles.

The Northern courtyard is the only area open to the public now. The palace also has wedding and function halls one can book.

17. Hussain Sagar Lake
The Hussain Sagar Lake, locally referred to as ‘Tank Bund’, is a popular landmark in Hyderabad. The lake is the largest heart shaped mark on the planet and spreads over an area of 5.7 kilometers. In the center of the lake is the Gibraltar Rock Island on which the world’s largest monolithic statue of Buddha stands. The Lake, which gets its waters from the River Musi, divides the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The dam was built on the Krishna river back in the 1960s and has since attracted tourists from around the country. Besides the dam, the area also has a museum and an island called Nagarjuna Konda which is a Buddhist town.
