Annoying Toys You Need To Avoid Getting For Your Baby

Expecting a baby soon? We wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve already started shopping and planning for the baby’s homecoming. From the very moment a pregnancy is confirmed, it is quite natural for the soon-to-be parents to start doing so in advance. Apart from being exciting, it also saves a lot of time later on when the baby would have arrived. So, if you’ve already bought those onesies, baby rockers, etc., then great. But if you’re reaching out to pick that colorful rattle then – stop! Before you start shopping for toys for your little one, have you actually given a good thought about what’s safe for them? Or are you simply buying something because it’s ‘trending’? Now that we’ve got you thinking, let us share with you below the kind of toys you need to avoid buying for your baby.

The Clanging Rattles

Rattles are perhaps the first toys that expectant parents reach out for even before the baby arrives. We have no idea who started it first, but really guys? How can something so annoying to an adult soothe a crying baby at all? In fact, some of us might have silently watched parents fail miserably in soothing their little one with a rattle. Even if the baby does stop crying, it is probably because of a pacifier or the colors of the rattle that would have distracted them, albeit momentarily. Skipping this one will not make any difference to your baby.

Loud, Noisy Play Things

Once a baby starts playing on the floor or crawling, he/she is usually given noisy toys like a singing doll or a noisy flashy car to play with. But, did you know that the high decibels of such toys can actually harm your baby’s hearing? In fact, according to a study, the noise emitted by such toys is of a whopping 90 decibels (1). Since babies often have a habit of putting those toys to their ears, imagine the amount of damage it’ll do to their hearing? So, if you are planning to buy that musical doll or that remote-controlled noisy car, now’s the time to ditch the idea. If this (high decibel) isn’t a good reason to do it, then we don’t know what is!

Toys With Sharp Edges

Of course, there are innumerable toys that your baby can play with. However, make sure they are made of good quality. Especially check for sharp edges of the toys. Often, certain details are easy to miss. Like the fingertips of a doll, the edges inside the car’s wheels, sharp corners of the building blocks, etc. Also, very tiny toys which can be easily ingested should be avoided. Such toys can easily cut your baby’s fingers and mouth since babies often suck on their toys.

Over-Sized Carousels

No doubt these cute and colorful carousels look attractive and enhance the look of your baby’s room. But then, they can be a potential hazard to your baby. No matter how high you might perch them on the edge of your baby’s cradle, quite often they end up bending due to their own weight. With each passing week, as your baby grows and becomes active, there are high chances he/she will be able to kick the carousels. And when that happens, it is bound to fall on your baby on any given day without a warning.

Noisy Baby Shoes

Yeah, we know that you’d love to watch your little one take baby steps (pun intended) in these shoes. But remember, it’s not going to be a one-time thing. By the time your baby grows big enough to walk in these shoes, you’ll be swamped with a lot of baby duties. Although you might find it cute initially, as the exertion takes a toll, hearing an irritating squeaking sound each time your baby walks might prove difficult to tolerate.

Now that you are aware of the potential of these toys to annoy you and your child, it would be prudent to steer clear of them. Your child is precious to you. So, make an intelligent and informed choice even when it comes to getting something as simple as a toy.
