Don’t y’all agree that we are living a fast-paced life? It’s so quick paced that forget about our minds catching up with it, even our bodies struggle to put up with it. The lifestyle we’re a part of has taken a very serious toll on the most sensitive part of our body— our skin. Even the youngsters have started developing wrinkles, aging skin and dry patches due to the stress that the skin goes through because of all the pollutants and the exposure to UV elements in the air. So, isn’t prevention better than cure? We need to start looking after our skin right from our teenage years or in the late 20’s so that we don’t welcome all the aging skin problems even before the stars want to.
And when it comes to anti-aging remedies, it’s better to resort to DIY options and making use of the naturally available resources like fruits and vegetables. In our eyes, carrots rest itself at the top-most position. No! We aren’t saying this out of our love for the witty Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes.
Why Carrots?
Carrots have a lot of benefits for the skin. We are aware of it being a rich source of vitamin A, don’t we? But apart from that, it’s also rich in vitamin C, K and a lot of dietary fibers which is responsible for improving the texture of the skin (1). They are also rich in beta-carotene which prevents wrinkles. It also promotes the growth of new skin tissues.
How does it help in the anti-aging process? Well, carrots contain an element called retinol which is the main ingredient in most of the anti-aging skin care products that are found in the market (2). We love eating carrots to keep our body healthy, and now, we can apply it externally on our skin and continue to reap its benefits.
How Does A Face Mask Made Of Carrot Work For Our Skin?
- The vitamin A present in carrots protects the skin by limiting the free radicals produced which can damage the skin cells. It prevents the skin from aging and also treats acne (3).
- Vitamin C found in carrots boosts the collagen production in our skin, resulting in a firmer looking skin (4). It reduces problems like inflammation and irritation. It heals post-breakout redness and boosts the skin’s defense mechanism against the UV exposure.
- Carrots also contain a good amount of potassium that leaves our skin well moisturized.
- The beta-carotene in carrots renews the skin by promoting the renewal of fresh skin cells.
- Vitamin E present in carrots is not just a vitamin but also works as an antioxidant. It hydrates the skin, reduces the scars (if any) and also helps in erasing the dark spots.
