Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a modern style of yoga that combines exercises and stretching with breathing and traditional yoga philosophies. The Sanskrit word “Vinyasa” means the transition between two positions. This style of yoga is extremely beneficial for weight loss. Read on to find out how exactly Astanga Yoga can help in weight loss.

1. Setu Bhandasana

The Setu Bhandasana or the Bridge Pose stretches the hips, chest, neck, and spine. And in doing so, it helps in burning the fat from these areas. Indigestion may cause bloating. Practicing this asana improves digestion and makes your stomach flatter. If you suffer from a backache or leg pains, this asana is a good option for you. It works the muscles and nerves, giving them a thorough stretch and relieving the pain. The bridge pose encourages blood circulation and reduces anxiety, fatigue, and depression. This asana is also said to be therapeutic for sinusitis, hypertension, and osteoporosis.

2. Salabhasana

The Salabhasana or the Locust Pose stimulates good posture and a fit body. This asana helps you slim down and tones your figure. It is beneficial for relieving stress, anxiety, and depression and calms your mind, making you feel at peace. Performing this asana stimulates the internal organs of your body and regulates its acid balance. The Salabhasana strengthens your back, shoulders, calf and thigh muscles. This pose helps with fatigue and leaves you feeling invigorated and confident.

3. Ardha Matsyendrasana

The Arda Matsyendrasana is also called the Half Spinal Twist Pose, and because of said spinal twisting, it is extremely useful for back ailments. Those who have a bad posture or constant back pain should practice this pose on a regular basis. We only bend our spines forwards and sometimes backwards, but to be more flexible and in control, one must twist it laterally as well. Performing this asana tones the spine, it’s ligaments and the back muscles. This is a great method to lose fat around the sides and the back. Because you are stretching your torso, the organs in the abdominal region get massaged, and excess toxins get released. The Arda Matsyendrasana is also beneficial for relieving fatigue, sciatica, and menstrual discomfort.

4. Vakrasana

The Vakrasana is useful for burning torso fat, especially the waist. It improves activities relating to the spinal cord and the nervous system. When this asana is performed, you are essentially twisting your body and stretching out your organs in the process. This works wonders on all the organs present in the abdomen; it aids in proper adrenal gland function, strengthens the kidney, and prevents the enlargement of the spleen and liver. Practicing the Vakrasana gives you a good posture and helps in getting rid of waist and back pains.

5. Padahastasana

Padahastasana – which is in Sanskrit like every other yoga pose names – literally translates to hand to foot. Pada is the Sanskrit word for foot and hasta is hand. For performing this yoga pose, you are required to bend downwards and in doing so, you will be stretching out all of the essential muscles of the body. This asana also helps to regulate blood flow and gets it pumping to the head, relieving you of headaches. The Padahastasana is especially beneficial for the thigh muscles. It targets belly fat and helps in trimming the waist. Doing the Padahastasana regulates the digestive system and gets rid of any stomach-related disorders.

The Ashtanga Yoga combines the traditional style of yoga with the modern. The modern style is useful for the purpose of weight loss, and the traditional keeps your mind healthy. Practising this yoga technique will boost your confidence, and make you fit both physically and mentally.
