Top 7 Baby Safety Tips That According To Research, Aren’t Actually Safe
For ages now, each generation has been passing down its family secrets and remedies, with the aim to take care of newborns in the best possible manner. And, since these habits come so naturally to us, it becomes hard to break them. But, in recent times, we have become more aware, realizing that not all these methods are as safe as we thought them to be. For instance, we used to believe that using Q-tips to clean babies’ ears is pretty harmless. However, now we know that it can cause more harm to infants and grownups alike. Here, we have brought you some of the habits that you might think are safe but actually aren’t:
1. Napping Alone In One Room
Many believe that it’s not right to sleep next to the babies fearing that it may spoil them. However, it may be important that parents stay close to their infants to help develop their immunity. In fact, many people advice that babies should sleep with their parents for at least the first one year of their life. Of course, moms and dads need to take care so as to not hurt their babies while in deep sleep.
2. Walker Issues
Recently, a few doctors have suggested that walkers should be avoided if possible. The design may not be optimum to maintain a correct posture for tiny tots. This may surprise you since walkers have been used for generations now, freeing up the parents’ hands for some time. In fact, babywear has been picked out as a safer and healthier option. Not only does it prevent the babies from developing poor postures, but it also helps them receive their parents’ warmth.
3. Toothpaste Containing Fluoride
Some tap water is known to contain fluoride, especially in regions where water has more chemical compounds in general. If babies are highly exposed to fluoride, it may affect their bone density, making them more likely to have fractures. So, using a toothpaste that also contains fluoride may not be the best idea. Either opt for toothpaste that doesn’t have fluoride content or go for the coconut oil instead. You can also buy a water filter specially designed to remove fluoride.
4. Car Safety
It might be better to seat your babies such that they are facing towards the rear of the car than the front. Also, make sure that the babies’ seat belt is always properly buckled up. Of course, drive safe too!
5. Milk From Cow
Milk retrieved from a goat is said to be closer to the breast milk as compared to the one taken from a cow. So, the goat milk might be easier to digest for infants. Here, of course, we are talking about the time after the breastfeeding stage. These days, many parents opt for almond or cashew milk, soy milk, or goat milk after the child turns one. Please be careful in the beginning to make sure that the milk does suit your baby.
6.Fever Medication
It might not be necessary to always treat your babies’ fever with medicines. In newborns, the fever may be an indication that their body’s functioning is proper. And, that their immune system may be learning how to battle the bacteria naturally, increasing their body temperature in the process. So, it’s always better to consult your pediatrician before giving them medicines as he/she will guide you the best.
7. Hats On Babies
Many parents put hats on their babies to ensure that they don’t lose their body temperature. But, the thing is that your baby may be able to regulate his/her own temperature, very much like adults. In fact, it may cause hindrance to the parent-child skin-to-skin touch, thus, hampering the bond.
