10 Biggest Delivery Room Regrets You Could Have

There is going to be quite some nervousness and anxiety when you are in the delivery room. You know why you are there and you hope for an easy delivery. But there could be events that you are not prepared for. There could be situations you wished you didn’t have to experience in the delivery room. Despite having your baby delivered safe, there might be a few things you wished you could change. Here are the top delivery room regrets that women might have:

1. Allowing Too Many People In The Delivery Room

You might not mind having a dozen people in the delivery room with you. But as they say, “Too many cooks spoil the broth”, and you might regret your decision. It may turn out to be a not-so-great show which you didn’t want them to see, especially when they come up with their remarks. Wishing you didn’t have them in the delivery room?

2. Having A Delivery In The Hospital

A lot of women still prefer home births, perhaps with the help of a doula or a midwife. While most modern women wonder how their grandmothers delivered at home with no medical assistance, some women trust themselves for a home delivery. You just followed your natural instincts we suppose.

3. Getting An Epidural

Yeah, as the pain gets excruciating you plead for an epidural. Or you ask for one at the outset. But later regret that you didn’t put a brave face on and muster all the power you had within yourself.

4. Not Going For Prenatal Classes

Possibly you relied more on yourself than going in for one. But at the delivery table, you wished you had been for prenatal classes that would have prepared you better for the delivery. Prenatal exercise sure is a thing.

5. Being Rushed In For That C-Section

Whatever reason that determined your C-section – a medical emergency or a personal choice, or an undisputed decision by your doctor – but having a Cesarean would mean lesser chance of vaginal birth in the future, lesser mobility for a few weeks post surgery, and more dependency on your immediate family for help.

6. Playing A Good Hostess In The Recovery Room

It’s not the time to have a guest and be all pally with everyone. But it seems like you made that extra effort to keep smiling. You deserved to sleep, not entertain your guests!

7. Allowing The Birth Photographer

It has become a norm to have birth photographers in the delivery room. But it might be something you would regret later, especially if you happen to be a very private person.

8. Not Breastfeeding Right After Birth

If you didn’t have the chance to breastfeed immediately after birth, perhaps because of a C-section or because your nurse just didn’t give you enough time, it would be something you will not be proud of in the future. Rooming-in has its purpose!

9. Allowing That Episiotomy

It might as well be that your doctor makes a few unnecessary interventions, such as that episiotomy that you could have done without. If you had in the past pushed that big baby, you could still do that with your second delivery too.

10. Agreeing With The Doctor

Perhaps your doctor is only rushing you. Use your mind and get clarifications from your doctor before agreeing to whatever your hospital says.

What were your regrets from the delivery room? We would love to hear from you.
