“Mothers always know the best!” How many of you would dare to disagree with this? Agreed that we all might have spent most of our years diligently ignoring our mother’s advice. But, we all can now look back and say that she was always right about that guy we dated back in school or college. It always occurs to us way later in life that all the bossing, the nagging, all of it which our mother so affectionately showered upon us was always beneficial to us. Okay, we might not give her the credit for predicting the future of our relationships that we’ve been through, but we are forever grateful to her for her wisdom and intuitive power. If there’s one thing that we, as women, will wholeheartedly give credit for and shower love on our mothers, it has to be the beauty secrets that she shared with us. What would have happened to our oh-so-sensitive skin and our unruly hair, and those stubborn eye bags if our amma, maa, aai, mumma, whatever you call your angel, had not shared their beauty treasure with us, right? And it’s not just us; even the celebrities feel the same about their mothers. Here’s a list of seven such celebrities who went on to share with us the beauty tips that they’ve learnt from their moms.

1. Sonakshi Sinha

We all know about the unquestionable acting skills of this Dabangg girl, don’t we? Another thing that’s unmissable is her beautiful, flawless skin. Sonakshi has religiously followed one skin routine on her mother’s advice. It was her mom who asked her to rub ice on her skin that contributed to the flawless attrtibutes. She says that it helps to tighten the pores of our skin, and gives it a healthy glow. The cherry on the cake is that it even gives a natural blush.

And it’s true, rubbing ice cubes on our skin will improve the blood circulation, brightening our complexion. Not just that, it even soothes sunburns and any form of skin inflammation (1).

2. Blake Lively

We rank this beauty trick to be the weirdest of all. But, we’re anyway going to give it a try. Blake Lively shared that her mother always asked her to apply hair mask made of mayonnaise. Yes, you can walk up to the store and buy yourself a bottle of mayonnaise to nourish your hair. Do you think we have lost our mind? No, we’re just telling you what Blake swears by. She regularly applied the mayo mask from the midsections of her hair till the ends. This weird beauty hack has some science behind it. The mayonnaise apparently is made of healthy ingredients such as egg, vinegar, and lemon juice — all these definitely foster the shine and also lock the moisture of our hair. So, when Blake is doing it, then we definitely ought to give this beauty hack a shot.

3. Shilpa Shetty Kundra

“Never use soap on face,” is what Shilpa’s mother told her. Turns out you should actually never use it on the face. If you’re wondering why? Well, soap can be too harsh on your skin. It creates an imbalance in your skin’s pH balance causing adverse effects like dehydration as well (2). Use natural facial cleansers instead.

4. Jessica Alba

Her beauty is divine, isn’t it? Her skin is like the epitome of natural glow and the fact that her skin looks so dewy, is something to take note of. After all, not everybody is gifted with such divine beauty. She says that when she was a teen, her mom told her about three basic rules of skin care. Firstly, she was asked to wash her face every night before sleeping. Second, she was asked to wear a sunscreen every day irrespective of whether or not the sun was seen hiding behind the cloud. Lastly, she was advised to always be gentle with her skin, especially her face. AMEN!

5. Yami Gautam

Yami’s mom told her that it’s the kitchen that’s going to be the best salon you’ll ever step into. She remembers how her mother used to make a DIY exfoliator in the kitchen which was made from rice powder, lemon juice, and egg whites. Rice powder is antioxidant rich and is known to leave a natural revitalizing effect on your skin (3). Another important fact about rice is that it contains certain sun-protecting agents like allantoin and ferulic which convert into a natural sunscreen.

6. Kendall Jenner

This highest-paid model who rose to fame with the television show Keeping up with the Kardashians also follows her mother’s beauty rules. Her mother always asked her to keep her hands to herself and to never touch her face. Studies say that on an average we end up touching our faces at least thrice in an hour (4). By doing this, we invite the oil and dirt to travel from one place on our face to another. Ergo, the consequential dreaded breakouts cover our face! So stop touching your face people!

7. Priyanka Chopra

We all have seen how attached is Priyanka to her mother. We’ve seen her mother accompany her to most of her events. Her mom has passed down a treasure trove of DIYs to her. And the one that is her favorite is a DIY lip scrub. The lip scrub is a mix of some salt (a pinch or more) with a few drops of rose water and some vegetable glycerin. Massage this mixture on your lips with this and wash with some warm water. DIYs are everybody’s favorite!

We all want to look beautiful and when the beauty tips come from our mothers, we should definitely pay heed to them because these beauty regimes will be worth the effort and attention. Thee beautiful celebs are enough proof of this. What’s that one beauty secret that you’ve inherited from your mom? Let us know in the comments below.
