How Many Of These Childhood Games Do You Remember?
Childhood is that time in your life when your hardest goodbyes are only until the next day of school, and your biggest problems were getting your homework done. As 90s kids, we spent most of our childhood playing outdoors, and we loved it. Hide and seek, running and catching, and hopscotch were games we couldn’t get enough of, and we waited for the smallest chance to play them, whether it was with friends, neighbors, or cousins. With no internet, smartphones, and tablets, 90s kids did not spend their time glued to screens. Instead, we went outside and enjoyed the world. It was one of the best times of our lives. So today, let’s take a trip down memory lane and reminisce some of the games we played during our childhood:
1. You’re It
Popularly known as “tag”, the game involves a set of players, the more, the merrier. The seeker has to catch someone and tag them, saying, “Tag! You’re It”, who then becomes the next seeker. It’s a never-ending game of running and catching, which we spent hours playing.
2. Lock ‘N Key
If you’re a 90s kid, you definitely know this fun game. The seeker runs around trying to catch the other players. When he/she is about to catch one, they can lock themselves by screaming out “lock” and placing their hands on their head. They cannot move until another player gives them the key.
3. Hopscotch
Hopscotch is a fun playground game where a small object was tossed into numbered patterns on the ground and hopped over. The player has to jump through the pattern and retrieve the object while jumping back out. One or more players can play it.
4. Crocodile
How can you forget the “Crocodile crocodile, can we cross the golden river?” chant? The game made you fast, sharp, and improved your knowledge of colors.
5. Hide And Seek
Everyone’s favorite except the one chosen as the seeker, hide and seek, is one of the most legendary childhood games ever invented. You need a whole lot of skills to master this game. It involves hiding, running, tracking, observation, and requires the ability to stay silent. Most kids spent their summers playing hide and seek and couldn’t get enough of it!
6. Human Knot
A childhood game adopted by workplaces as ice breakers, the human knot is a team-building activity known as “doctor doctor”. You stand in a circle holding hands, make knots by passing through between people in the circle until you’ve formed a complicated knot. The seeker has to untie the knot without separating the hands until everyone returns to the initial circle.
7. Monkey In The Middle
The game is all about the fun unless you’re the monkey in the middle. Two players stand across from each other, with one in the middle. The two players must pass the ball to each other while the middle one tries to intercept it.
8. Hot Hands
We are not sure how kids were even allowed to play this violent game. It is also called slap hands, and that’s precisely what happens. Kids sit in a circle and place one of their palms on a surface (usually a table) facing downwards. Each player slaps the previous hand while you pile up the palms on top of each other until one of them withdraws because of the pain. Just like you, we are looking for the point of this game too!
9. Lagori
Seven stones, a.k.a lagori, is a popular game played in India. It involves two teams, a ball, and seven flat stones or wooden blocks stacked into a pile. One team knocks down the pile and tries to stack them up while the opposing team throws the ball at the other team.
No matter how old we get, we will always cherish the time we spent in our childhood playing these wonderful games. We are sure you feel nostalgic after going through this list and possibly sad because you miss your childhood. But hey, us, 90s kids, are lucky to have had one of the best childhoods ever! So don’t frown because it’s over; smile because it happened! Which game was your favorite as a child? Comment below and let us know.
