Remember the saying, ‘eyes are the windows to your soul’? They are, in fact, windows enmeshed in a glasshouse. Imagine peering into the life of a family – a glance in any direction would reveal a sign of life or decay. Your face, much in the same manner, serves as a mirror, giving a peek into the functioning of your body. Rashes, redness, pimples, and changes in skin color are like noises coming from the house, often signs of the disagreements, arguments, and a sense of discord within.

The facial skin is sensitive and thus can reflect internal changes faster than other parts of the body. While sophisticated MRI and X-Ray machines leave little to the imagination, they haven’t been around that long. But human bodies come equipped with a natural diagnostic system, the study and use of which was mastered by the Chinese centuries ago.

Face mapping is a traditional healing wisdom widely used in China that also finds its roots in Ayurveda. The practice is based on the belief that the body is connected through energy channels known as meridians. Meridians transfer energy between all the organs. Face mapping connects different areas of your face to internal organs, so any anomaly on the surface can be traced to an internal imbalance, the timely and correct diagnosis of which can prevent major diseases and lead to an overall healthy state of being.

Let’s take a look at our facial constellation.

1. Forehead

Connected To: Bladder, Small Intestine

Changes on the forehead are caused by excess consumption of alcohol, sugar, and fatty and canned foods. These foods slow down the metabolism rate of the body. Further, a stressful, nocturnal, and anxiety prone lifestyle is a breeding ground for such issues.

The intestines are majorly influenced by our nervous system. In fact, our CNS determines the digestive function (1). Deep horizontal lines across the forehead can indicate an overactive nervous system and poor intestinal health. It may specifically indicate a leaky gut, SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), or a bacterial imbalance.

Cure: Increase the consumption of raw fruits and vegetables and include probiotic foods like yogurt and raw cacao in your diet. Also, include some physical activity, yoga, and meditation in your daily routine and sleep properly.

2. Between The Eyebrows

Connected To: Liver

The liver is responsible for detoxification and digestion (2). If there is an excess of toxins, processed foods, or even negative emotions pumped in the body, it shows up between the eyebrows. Generally speaking, any skin issue indicates a liver imbalance.

Cure: Your liver needs an abundance of leafy greens, turmeric, and lean protein. Swap all toxic skin care products with natural organic ones. Learn to relax. Meditate and spend time in nature.

3. Below The Eyes

Connected To: Kidneys

The kidneys take care of all the fluid in the body. So, it’s anybody guess that water plays a huge role. Under eye bags, dark circles, and puffiness are caused by dehydration, stress, and lack of sleep.

Cure: Drink enough water, but do not chug, sip it throughout the day. Avoid excess of sugar, caffeine, and refined salt. Include mineral-rich foods in your diet, improve your sleep cycle, and resolve any emotional stress that you might have.

4. Nose

Connected To: Heart

The left side of the nose corresponds to the left side of your heart and vice versa. Blackheads point to heart congestion, and redness indicates blood sugar/pressure issues.

Cure: First and foremost, you can cure your heart by eliminating grief, anger, and stress and through forgiveness. Another focus area is cholesterol. Lower cholesterol levels can be achieved by lowering your sugar and refined carb intake. Inflammation can be reduced by consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. And, there’s no substitute for 30 minutes of daily cardiovascular exercise.

5. Cheeks

Connected To: Stomach, Spleen

The stomach and spleen release enzymes that break down the food to extract the necessary nutrients. The spleen acts as a filter for blood. Red cheeks are indicators of inflammation in the stomach.

Cure: Consume a high-fiber diet and lean meats and stay hydrated. Avoid smoking, excessive caffeine, and alcohol.

 6. Mouth And Chin

Ulcers in the mouth may indicate a heated stomach or ulcers present in the stomach. Limit your consumption of spices, cold food, sugar, fat, and caffeine.

Cure: Consume warm, lightly cooked food, aloe vera, and chia seeds.

7. Jaw And Neck

Connected To: Hormones

An increase in the intake of salt or caffeine and insufficient water consumption causes hormonal imbalance. Your chin is most likely where hormonal imbalances and stress will make themselves known, which means you’re more likely to break out there around your menstrual cycle.

Cure: Reducing salt, caffeine, and alcohol should fix any minor hormonal imbalance. Reducing stress as much as possible, getting adequate sleep, and exercising will help heal blemishes around this kapha dosha-ruled area.

Now that you know the age-old Chinese secret of face mapping, go look in the mirror, find out what’s written on your face, and reclaim your well-being. As they say, it’s never too late to begin.
