Research Proves That Daddies Doing This ONE Thing Can Save Kids From Emotional Problems

Children see parents as their first role models. Our children tend to mimic our behavior more often than we realize. It’s most likely that a child who has grown up in a bad neighborhood might find himself following the wrong path as they become adults. Children can be easily influenced and manipulated at a younger age. And this is why we often see them doing robbery or selling drugs if that’s what they see growing up. Parents have an equal role to play when it comes to bringing up a child. There’s a lot more to raising a child than just fulfilling all their materialistic needs.

A child lives in a cocoon under a safe and cozy environment that we build for them. As they grow up, they will have to face high school, college and then the real world. In today’s age where the statistics of teenage suicides horrify us and where almost every other child is being bullied, are we doing enough to give them the strength and courage that they need?

When it comes to raising a child, mothers are usually considered as the only parental figure to teach kids manners and obedience as well as taking care of their emotional well being. Father usually plays the role of a babysitter in most father-child relationships that we see in our country. If a dad takes his child out for ice cream or for bowling, he is crowned as the perfect father figure. But is that enough? Are we as parents doing enough to raise an emotionally strong child?

The Role Of A Father In Child’s Development

A study from Michigan State University suggests that fathers play a key role in the child’s development. The role of a father influences a child’s development – language, cognitive growth, and social skills. It states that contradictory to what people believe, dads have a direct effect on their child’s development – short term as well as in the long run. The research was conducted on areas such as parental stress and mental health problems and depression in children. It was found that the negative mental health of a father had a bad effect on the cognitive and language development of the child. It had a direct effect on how the toddler behaved as well. It also had a long term impact where the mental health of a father influenced the child’s social skills as they reached fifth grade. It was found that the mental state of the father had a greater impact on the child compared to the mother (1).

One of the researchers on the study believes that the father needs to be more involved in their child’s life. Children look up to their fathers. They are expected to enforce the rules which are laid down. Just like the mother, even the father needs to provide a safe and secure environment for the child. Not just physically, but emotionally as well. A father who shows affection and supports their kid throughout their life will have a positive impact on the overall well-being of the child. It promotes cognitive and social development. The child becomes more confident in himself/herself as well (2). Kids always wats to do things that make their dads proud. A father who is involved in his kid’s life gives the child the inner growth and strength that he/she needs.

So, if you think that your husband is not emotionally involved in your child’s life, it’s time to make some changes. Make sure that he is not carrying out just the domestic tasks, but is always present physically as well as emotionally. Try to start building a stronger bond with your little one right from infancy. Build a balanced environment where both you and your partner create a safe and secure environment for your child. Spend as much quality time with your kids as you can. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Playing cards or watching a game together will help in enforcing the bond your kids share with their father.
