Scientists Tell Us About The Indispensable Exercises That Make Us Live Longer
Good health is a gift we at times inherit, but most often gift ourselves by exercising well, giving our body healthy food, taking ample rest, and making sure we do not miss out on keeping our bones and muscles strong as well as flexible. Exercising well has a lot of benefits and the most significant way exercise helps our body is by acting as an anti-aging activity.
If we work out regularly our bones and muscles grow stronger, the blood circulation in our body improves, the risk of having cardiovascular issues or diabetes drops significantly, and our organs work all the more efficiently as each and every cell of our body gets a good amount of oxygen. And if that’s not enough, our digestion, i.e. nutrition absorption happens a lot better in our body too! While any form of exercise works wonders for you to achieve a toned body and a sound mind, did you know that there are some inevitable exercises that we all must practice every day to improve and increase our lifespan? Read on to know more!
I Bend So I Don’t Break
If you wish to live longer, bend a lot more! Don’t worry, this is not intended to make you overly-submissive, the bending discussed here is about bending your body and the resultant improvement in muscle strength and flexibility. But first, let us test ourselves to know as to what our real body age is by trying a simple forward bending exercise:
- Begin with a little warmup exercise and then bend forward, keeping your knees and back straight.
- Try to bend as much as you can and remember the point that you could reach while bending. Now stand up.
- Body Age (20 – 25 Years): Your body age is somewhere between 20-25 years if your palms touched the ground with ease and you weren’t in tearing hurry to stand up!
- Body Age (25 – 38 Years): Your body is somewhere between 25 to 38 years of age if you touch the floor with your fingertips while you bend your knees a little. You don’t seem to be very uncomfortable holding this posture.
- Body Age (38 – 50 Years): Your body age is somewhere between 30 to 50 years if your fingers are touching your feet partly and you feel the tension in your muscles.
- Body Age (Above 50 Years): Your body age is more than 50 years if you find it difficult to touch your feet. While bending backwards, your knees are bent and you find it tough to hold that position.
If your body age is lesser than your actual age, then you truly deserve a pat on your back! But if your body age is higher than your actual one, don’t panic as flexibility can improve at any age with exercise. Try the following routine to give your body the gift of flexibility:
- Bending at least 30 times in a day is a great way to improve flexibility.
- People with desk jobs must practice this religiously.
Release Muscular Tension By Sitting On A Chair
Muscular tension is a condition where the muscles of one’s body remain partially contracted, the reasons for this can be many, including stress, and this can lead to neck and back pain (1). To boost one’s muscle health there is a simple exercise that one needs to practice every day – and you neither need to visit the gym nor do you need any fancy equipment! Here is how:
- Sit down on a chair and keep your back in neutral position.
- Hold your breath for 30 seconds then exhale.
- Now, take a deep breath in, then let your tummy pop out.
- Once again hold your breath in.
- Exhale completely and then tuck your tummy in.
This is a great exercise to ease muscle tension, but make sure you consult your doctor before attempting this.
We all wish for a long and healthy life, don’t we? Having a sound mind, toned body, and youthful appearance are on everyone’s wish list. But to achieve overall well-being, one needs a little more than exercise, you see. One needs dedication and consistency, which we often overlook in the stress of our daily lives. But if you want to keep that skin glowing and youthful, that body svelte, and that mind sharp and powerful, you need to work out without losing out on punctuality!
I am sure by now you are aware of simple exercises that when incorporated into your daily routine can make wonders. No matter what your body age or real age is, practicing these simple yet effective forms of exercise will greatly benefit your muscular strength and flexibility. You won’t live inside that stiff body; instead, you will live in a body that won’t break, for it bends!
