No matter how many dates you’ve been on, every first date with a person is bound to be a tricky one. Because you’re meeting a new person and you’re always worried about making a good impression. You become more conscious of not making any wrong move that might null your chances for a second date (that’s if you happen to like the person).

There are a list of things that could go wrong. You might end up using a cuss word while talking, you might realize that there’s absolutely nothing in common between the two of you, your beautiful heel could break off, anything could happen!

Considering the fact that most of the first dates happen over a romantic dinner, let’s think of all the things that one needs to pay heed to. First comes the dress. The ladies always find themselves in a confused spot when choosing between the LBD (little black dress), that could leave them shivering at the date, and the hot red dress that could make them look too interested. Next comes the way you talk and behave. Well, now that’s something only situations can control. So what’s the most foolproof part of the date? Ordering, of course! You see what you want and you order it. It’s as simple as that, right? But, we’re afraid it’s not that simple after all. There are quite a number of things to keep in mind while ordering food on your first date. You definitely don’t want to order something which is going to leave you messy AF making you look clumsy, do you?

Here’s a quick lowdown of the list of items you should be avoiding on your first date.

1. A Long Island Iced Tea Will Leave You Drunk In A LIT Way

Ordering a long island iced tea is like saying, “I want to get sloshed mate.” LITs are definitely one of the best cocktails in the world, but it shouldn’t be the normal drink choice for a date. On dates, you need to order drinks that will help you be in your senses and still have a good time because who would like to sit and chat with someone who is wasted, right? Pick a sparkling wine or old fashioned martini instead; that will leave you buzzing in a sober way.

2. Don’t Order Food That You’re Allergic To

Okay, please do not order any food item from the menu that you are allergic to. You can explicitly ask the waiter for a detailed ingredient list or just mention the foods that cause allergy to you. If you weren’t able to do that, let your date know about it. It’s important to play safe here because no one would like a first date to end with a drive to a hospital, right?

3. Don’t Be Price Conscious

We get it; you might be a little tight money-wise, especially, if it’s the month-end. But, ordering looking at the price of every dish can send out the wrong signals to your date. Your date might mistake you for being a money-minded human! And if your date wishes to order something that could make the bill burn a giant hole in your pocket, slyly try to suggest another food item, be careful though!

4. Spaghetti And Meatballs? No, Definitely A Big NO!

It’s yum and everybody knows it! But ordering for spaghetti and meatballs is going to make you look like a messy eater. You don’t want your date conversations to be intervened by the chewing and slurpy noises, do you? The red sauce that this dish comes with, is sure to leave a few stains on your clothes.

5. No Shellfish Because You Don’t Want To Look Like A Violent Eater

You simply cannot expect your date to look at you romantically while you sit at the table with tools to open up a piece of shellfish, would you? So, make sure you order nothing of these sorts which will make you look like you’re ripping apart the food on your table. Order food items which you can eat without creating a mess.

6. Don’t Order Spicy Food And Get Sweating

You know your temperate range better, so if it’s a jalapeno that you can handle and nothing more, then just stick to a jalapeno. Just because your date fancies spicy food or is an Asian, don’t end up ordering spicy food that you cannot handle. You definitely wouldn’t want to use your napkin as a sweat rag on a date, would you?

7. Don’t Order Foods That’ll Leave Your Mouth Smelling

This is a given, folks! Don’t order anything pungent that will leave you with bad breath for the rest of the night. Say no to raw garlic and onion especially. Never eat it no matter which date you’re on, first, second, third, or even the last.

These things sure do sound funny but trust us, they are important as well. Therefore, the next time you’re heading to a restaurant on a date, keep these don’ts in mind. It’s going to save you from embarrassment. Any other don’ts you want to add here? Let us know in the comments below.
