7 Sweet Gender-Neutral Nursery Themes

Once parents find out about the gender of their baby, they go with either one of the colors- pink for a girl and blue for a boy. There were only two colors to paint a nursery- pink and blue! But aren’t we tired of the same duo already? When we have a rainbow of colors to choose from, why stick to two? Expectant parents today are going for gender-neutral themes when they are decorating the nursery. And if you are somebody who has resisted the temptation to know the gender, but wants to decorate a nursery for your bambino, gender-neutral is the way to go. Here, we bring you 7 sweet gender-neutral nursery themes:

1. Add A Dash Of Color

Why stick to one color when you could paint a rainbow? You can add a colorful rug or hang a brightly colored painting on one of the walls. Or paint one of the walls with abstract designs. Adding an ottoman, lamp or even a piece of decor with bright color can instantly change the look and feel of the room.

2. Flowers And Leaves

You can buy a removable wallpaper to stick to one of the walls or paint some beautiful flowers and patterns to make it equally appealing. Wallpapers are perfect as it’s easy to stick and doesn’t require much work from your side.

If you think that flowery wallpapers are over the top, there are several other options available. There are a variety of ideas to choose from, like tropical leaves, big bold prints of flowers, and other small abstract prints.

3. Grey And White Tones

Who knew that such ‘boring’ colors could add the right amount of sophistication and edge that your room just might need. They look modern and sleek, without making it look plain and boring. Remember, details are key here. Go for a minimalistic approach, but also add a few pieces of furniture and decor that compliment the theme you are going for. Instead of neutral hues, you can go for decor that is bright.

4. Cute Animals

We are not talking about Disney characters here. Long gone are those days. Introduce cute adorable animals to your baby’s life. Think zebra, lion, giraffe, panda. Hang these animals in the wall behind the bassinet and crib. It’s better to go for a light or neutral-toned backdrop to make it look more appealing.

Throw in a rustic rug or make a wooden cabinet for more of a vintage look. Add a touch of wood here and there. You can go for a wooden crib, or wooden chair or table or both. Decorate it with a pot of plant on the side. Choose a plant with big green leaves that will catch anyone’s eye.

Wooden cribs are a classic, and will also come in handy if you are planning for a second or third child.

White is reflective and peaceful. White can also make spaces look bigger. There are numerous good reasons to go for white. You can add yellow or green accents to the white space to make it pop. White also allows the natural light to flow freely through the room and will brighten all the neutral textures.

If you are worried that a white nursery would be cold and sterile for a baby room, choose a monochrome theme. Mix it up with a piece of black furniture or a rug. You can also go for throw pillows or rugs or sheets that are monochrome. You can never go wrong with this theme and will save you plenty of time. If your room is already painted white, adding a few pieces of decor would do the trick.
