When you have body odor, what do you do? Simple – you spritz on some perfume or deodorant on yourself! But the solution is not this simple when it comes to children. Children cannot be exposed to chemical-laden deos and sprays since it can harm their delicate skin. And yet, they can have immense body odor since they are usually outdoors and indulge in a lot of physical activities. So, if you wish to get rid of your child’s body odor without causing them any harm, then you can opt for some home remedies to do so. Here’s how you can do it:

Lemon Water Bath

Lemon is believed to contain certain antibacterial properties that prevent the growth of bacteria. And, let’s not forget it’s refreshing smell! When your little tyke gets home after a day in the hot sun, immediately set up a warm bath and add a few drops of lemon to it. Keep the ratio as 1 tablespoon of lemon juice for a 2-liter bucket of water. This bath will not only help in reducing your child’s body odor, but will also make him/her feel refreshed.

Some people suggest rubbing lemon directly on sensitive areas. However, avoid doing it as lemon is usually highly acidic and can burn or irritate the sensitive skin of your child.

Tomato Juice Bath

The juice of tomato is also believed to help in eliminating body odor. However, applying it directly might irritate your child’s skin. It can also become quite messy. So adding it to a bath is a convenient way of using it. Simply grind some fresh tomatoes in a blender and strain the seeds and skin. Use the strained liquid, about 2 cups, in a 2-3 liter bucket of warm water. Bathe your child in this water at least twice a week, to begin with. As the body odor reduces, you can reduce it to once a week or 15 days.

Essential Oils

You can use essential oils such as rosemary oil or tea tree oil. These oils too are considered to be antibacterial in nature while also containing a pleasant smell. Just add a few drops of the oil on a cotton ball and rub it on your child’s underarms and other areas that are prone to body odor. You can apply these oils at least 15 minutes before bathing your child.

Some essential oils, like rosemary or menthol, are at times found to be too cold and can cause cold symptoms like headache or sneezing. Therefore, test a small area on your child’s arm 24 hours before using them. This will also give you an idea if your child is allergic to any of the oils. Preferably, try applying these oils during the warm part of the day like the afternoons. Avoid doing it during late evenings.
