Teething is an unpleasant experience not just for your tiny tot but for you too. It comes with its own set of troubles – from excessive drool to swollen gums and a cranky baby. Well, babies are irritable when they are teething because their tiny milk teeth cut the gums as they break out. This discomfort may cause your child to cry, stop eating and stay ratty all the time.
But mommies, there’s no need to dread as teething woes can be fixed with simple home remedies. We’ve got ten such remedies that are 100% natural, safe and can turn your grumpy toddler into the most cheerful baby again!

1. Try homeopathy

Homeopathy holds some of the most effective remedies for teething and all its associated troubles. Medicines prescribed for teething in homeopathy include Five Phos 6x and Calc Phos 6x. You need to feed your baby two pellets of each three times a day. It will not only help fix the irritation your baby feels, but also can cure a common cough, cold and diarrhea that arise due to teething. You can also make use of Echinacea tincture to numb the baby’s gums and ease the discomfort.
However, before you decide to self-administer a dose of these to your baby, it will be wise to consult a professional homeopath.

2. Bring teethers to use

We suggest that you use silver teethers than plastic ones. The former are more hygienic and easier to sterilize than the latter. But if silver is not to your liking, you can try other varieties such as gel teethers, wooden teethers, and silicone teethers. Teethers are most effective when they are frozen.

3. Massage your baby’s gums

Gently massage your baby’s gums with your fingers to soothe sore gums. Just be sure to wash your fingers thoroughly before massaging.

4. Choose cold foods for your baby

Frozen foods such as cucumbers, carrots, and plums can soothe the irritation. However, do not leave your baby unattended with a piece of frozen food. Monitor him at all times so that he doesn’t choke on it. You could also use a cold piece of cloth instead of food.

5. Homemade Teething Biscuits

Homemade Teething BiscuitsNatural teething biscuits can be easily prepared at home. Use crushed oats, millet, or spelt as a flour base and whip it with maple syrup, dates, or apple sauce. Add coconut oil to smoothen the mixture and bake it to the desired golden crisp. Your baby is going to totally love this one. And it will soothe the teething gums too.

6. Clove oil

Clove oil will have the same effect as cold foods on your tyke’s gums – i.e. it will reduce the pain.

7. Massage with vanilla extract

If your baby does not eat cold foods because of the taste, you can try vanilla instead. This delicious essence relieves the pain of teething to a great extent.

8. Rub ginger

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties. So if you rub a mini piece of ginger on your baby’s gums, it can help reduce the swelling.

9. Give your baby a cold spoon

The American Dental Association recommends you try out this one. Give your child a clean and cold steel spoon to chew on whenever he’s irritable.

10. Pat the gums with almond extract

If your baby is in pain, add a little bit of almond extract to water and rub the concoction on his gums.

If none of these remedies work for you, you can give teething biscuits to your baby to chew on. And most importantly stay calm as teething is just a phase that will pass away once all the teeth have erupted, leaving your baby with a toothy grin!
