How Kareena Kapoor Khan Can Inspire You To Get Back To Work After Baby
Khan or no Khan, Kareena has always been Bollywood royalty. Being a part of the blue-blooded Bollywood khandaan, she has always done things a tad differently from others.
A firecracker, who seldom holds herself back, Kareena Kapoor Khan, or KKK as she fondly calls herself on her radio show, has always managed to stay in the news for the right as well as not so right reasons. However, with time, we have seen her grow into an accomplished diva, who has learned to take things in her stride.
Even though she has been fiercely protective of her personal life, she has made no attempts to hide behind the shadows and let things take their own course. If she had something to say, she has announced it to the world from rooftops! Be it her love affairs, or her eventual wedding to her beloved Nawab of Pataudi, she made sure that she was in control of the narrative.
And it wasn’t any different when it came to her pregnancy. Rather than going incognito for the duration of her pregnancy, she chose to step out and lead a normal life. Kudos to Bebo for setting a great example for women on managing and accepting each phase of their life. Here’s how she did that.
1. When She Spoke Against Treating Pregnancy As An Impediment To Work
By choosing to keep mum about her pregnancy, the actress avoided drawing attention to her pregnancy rather than focusing on her work commitments. Though when her husband did announce the pregnancy officially, she chose the moment to criticize the media which kept her badgering about whether or not she would be taking a maternity break. Speaking against media’s obsession with her pregnancy, she lambasted them for treating it as a “national casualty”.
She also pointed out that this was a weird question to ask considering that this was the 21st Century and not the 1800s. In her own words, she said that she is pregnant and not a “corpse” (1). So ,people should treat her normally, as pregnancy is a normal phase in life which won’t come in the way of her work. You tell them, girl!
2. When She Went Out And About While Being Pregnant
The glam world of Bollywood might seem like the dream workplace, but it puts immense pressure on the actors to look a certain way, especially the female actors who are often held up to impossible standards of physical beauty. In these circumstances, it’s no surprise that many of them choose to keep their pregnancy a well-guarded secret, wherein they withdraw from the outside world for the duration of the pregnancy.
The same was expected of Kareena, but she chose to go the other way. In the run-up to the birth of Taimur, Kareena was seen stepping out for work commitments, and even media appearances. She was happy being in her skin and made sure the world knew it. As she put it, “I do have a stomach and I am big. But I have a child in there and I am carrying it proudly” (2).
Haters be damned!
3. When She Dove Into Work Without Bothering About The Trolls
After she gave birth to Taimur on 20 December 2016, Kareena took a well-deserved break wherein she chose to spend time with her newborn and connect with him. Though not the one to remain a shut-in, she kept working on and off even during this time. And because we live in a crappy world, she soon found herself becoming a target of the Internet trolls who accused her of “neglecting” and “abandoning” her son, just because she went out with her friends.
To this Kareena had a fitting reply “motherhood doesn’t mean a woman must give up on herself” (3). She chose to spend her post-delivery time getting back into shape for her movie, Veere Di Wedding, and there too she gave us fitness goals.
One only has to look at her to say that, yes, women can, in fact, have it all.
4. When She Established A Great Co-Parenting Model
It’s often said that when it comes to raising a child, it takes a village and Kareena too was no stranger to this fact. She acknowledged that she and her husband, Saif Ali Khan have a great marriage where they share the parenting responsibilities equally. She even thanked him while attending a UNICEF event on Mother’s Day, acknowledging the fact that her pregnancy wouldn’t have been such a pleasant experience had Saif not stood by her side throughout (4).
She also said that in terms of spending time with their child both of them make it a point to stay with Taimur as much as possible, with one person staying back when the other is unable to. Well, it is a great co-parenting model indeed!
And if you’re in her shoes right now, you can take a page out her pregnancy book to lead a normal life and manage work along with the responsibilities of motherhood. Just remember, it’s your pregnancy, your body, and your life, so play by your own rules.
