These Items Really Need To Get Out Of Your Kid’s Bedroom Now!
Imagine this – you are busy running around at home doing your household chores when – ouch! You’d have stepped on something sharp. As you bend down to inspect, it would probably be some inane toy that belongs to your kid! Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? If you have kids at home, you’ll probably know what we mean. No matter how regularly you clean, your child’s room still looks like it’s weathered a storm. So, what do you do? Give up cleaning altogether? NO, that’s never an option. But, do so in a clever manner by eliminating clutter. Here’s what you need to look out for to help you de-clutter your kid’s bedroom:
1. Your Child’s Wardrobe
Of course, you love that onesie that your kid wore for the first time. And that polka-dotted little frock, still cute isn’t it? As much as you’d like to store such stuff for nostalgia’s sake, the fact is it simply piles on and takes a lot of cupboard space. Kids often have more clothes than they can wear and usually quickly outgrow them too. This why it is important to keep clearing those outgrown clothes on a regular basis. So, for once, let go off those emotions. Instead, donate them to someone needy. Generosity is far better than nostalgia for something that will not last forever.
2. The Toy Box/Bag
When was the last time your child played with that big brown teddy? Does your daughter really need that distressed doll with a bald patch? Kids usually have a habit of stuffing their bags or boxes with toys and carrying them around simply for fun. In all probability, your child might not even remember ALL the toys in his/her bag. Check for toys that are similar and sort them out, like the same dinosaur in multiple colors. Or a mismatched set of blocks. Discard them if they are broken or donate them if they are in good shape.
3. Coloring Material
By this, we mean all crayons, color pencils, and even water paints. We often buy such items to keep our kids engaged in some activity while we go about doing our chores. But the fact is, the moment these items are handed over to the kids the get spilled over, broken, and lost in no time. Yet, we store whatever is remaining of them in hopes that the kids will use it again. Which, by the way, they rarely do. So, your kid’s bedroom can do with a little less mess by eliminating these.
4. Used Books
Topping this list are the innumerable coloring books. No, your kid is not interested in coloring that tiny little sun in the background after he/she is done with coloring the house in the foreground. And, aren’t we all guilty, at some point or the other, of storing the old rhymes book so we can use the pics in it for the kid’s school project or scrapbook? While being thrifty is a good idea at times, but not at the cost of hoarding a potential fire hazard.
5. Threadbare Socks
Another favorite item with the kids, socks come in different colors which easily attracts them. Soon, they end up wearing their favorite pair for the longest time. Sometimes, even after they develop holes large enough to make their toes protrude. Socks also get scattered easily, turning up at the most unexpected places. What’s more? Socks have a dubious distinction of always losing one of their pair. This creates an added task of looking out for the missing pair at the craziest of morning hours. So, get rid of all those single ones since they might be eating into a lot of space in your house.
