Mothers Do Know Better, They Identify Toxic Friendships And Relationships Before We Do

There are few of us who hasn’t been sent into a shock many a time by a mother’s ability to see things that others fail to notice. Believe us when we say that it isn’t extra-sensory perception or sixth sense or witchcraft. It is simply maternal intuition coupled with the old fashioned power of observation.

Relationships, romantic or otherwise, are pain points for most adults and young adults. Relationships are a skill that we learn by trial and error. It’s a painful process, nonetheless. Our parents are always looking out for us by warning us about the troublesome-looking friend, or the not-worth-it romantic partner. The source of this information? The gut.

Has it ever happened to you that your mother warned you about something, and it went down exactly like that? Yet she was probably there for you when you were moping around, inconsolable, and heartbroken.

To break it down for you, we have put together a list of possible reasons why your mother is always right. Take a look:

1. She Is Protective

Protectiveness is an evolutionary trait. When you carry a human being inside you for the best part of a year, you are bound to feel protective of them. Then they feed you, care for you, and raise you in a world that is known to be harsh. They know the difference people could make in our lives. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Can you blame them if they wish to keep you out of harm’s way?

2. Instincts And Observation

We all have instincts that help us get by in this wild world. But mothers seem to have honed their skills in this area. They see what most of us miss, especially something that could harm your young ones or family. They are likely to have a vetting method for all those we bring home. If they call out a toxic friend or partner, be sure to give it some thought.

3. She Understands You Well

They have known you all your life. They have sacrificed their sleep, probably their career and personal time to look after you. They have also watched you grow day by day. It’s only natural that they understand you well, which means that they know what you need and what you don’t. Sure they will be brutally honest about that too.

4. Been There, Done That

“I was a teenager once”, is a common line that parents like to use when you land in trouble. It is true. They were as wild as you are now, if not more. They had it all before they mellowed down and found peace in family life. Nothing teaches about life than life itself.

5. How Stuff Works

The best part about having more experience is that you figure out how the world works. You learn about different kinds of people and what they bring to the table. When our mothers see us hanging out with a person, all they want is to make sure that they won’t land us in trouble. As their experience has taught them what matters and what doesn’t, they don’t want our friends to be a bad influence on us.

Of course, there is a generational gap between you and your mom, which makes some things beyond her understanding. Filtering out the bad ones from the good ones, be it apples or people, is something that mothers always do right. As they say, mothers know the best, and you know you can’t argue with that.

Do you agree with the list we compiled here? Do you believe there are other factors contributing to your mother’s astute skills? Let us know in the comments. If you are a mother, spill your secrets here!
