Many of us want to live a simple life with minimum things around us. But decluttering the house can be exhausting and overwhelming at the same time. Experts say that clutter is a result of stress and it represents a cluttered mind. So, getting rid of the physical clutter can lead to a decluttered and organized mind.

Organizing our home not only gives us a clean and hygienic place to live, but also gives us peace of mind. Every room need not be straight out of a decor catalog, but keeping it clutter-free will surely make things much easier for you. Here are 10 simple ways to organize your home and relax.

1. Making The Bed

Making your own bed has many benefits. First of all, the entire bedroom looks organized the moment your bed is done. It also sets your mind on track when it come’s to cleaning the entire house. Also, it prevents you from going back for a quick snooze just because you have some time.

2. Sort All The Things First

Now here is something that will save you a lot of time and money. Sorting out all the stuff will help you decide what kind of storage items you actually need. Otherwise, you could end up buying storage boxes that have no use or are kept aside, empty, adding more to the clutter. Besides, buying these fancy things can really be expensive.

3. Keep Your Floor Clear

No matter how much you organize your room, if there are things lying on the floor, it will look shabby. Hence, keep space for magazines and newspapers under the coffee table or small side tables where they can be easily accessible and yet neatly piled up. You can also make a small beanbag in which you can store all the soft toys. Other things can be put into small boxes that can also be utilized for seating purposes.

4. Cover The Storage Space

Another way to make your room look decluttered is to cover the storage area. Open shelves look unorganized even if things are neatly placed inside it. The best thing to do is to cover such shelves by putting doors. An artistic drape or a cloth can also work wonders on some open furniture.

5. Let Go Of Things You Don’t Need

Most of us have a tendency to hold on to things that we do not need. Sometimes, it has an emotional connect, but mostly these are the things which we ‘think’ can be used one day. Go through each and every cabinet and see what you actually need. Things that are not broken or in good condition can go to charity.

6. Let Your Creativity Flow

The organization process should not be a tedious one. Remember, this is not a one-time thing, but you are creating a lifelong habit of keeping your house and mind clutter-free. Use your creativity in storing things like jewelry and stationery items. You can hang these little things in a decorative fashion. This will not only be easy on the eyes but it can also make space for other things.

7. Make Use Of Empty Spaces

There are many empty spaces in our house that can be used as excellent storage spaces. The inside space of your kitchen cabinet door can be used for hanging extra storage baskets. The space under the dining table can be kept for extra cutlery or kitchen towels (according to the size of the table). Even the space under the stairs can be converted into a shoe rack or utility closet, depending upon where the staircase is situated.

Organizing the entire house can be a humongous task and doing it in one day can be exhausting. Instead, break up the project into smaller segments and approach each segment one by one. This will make it easier to achieve the ultimate goal and prevent you from abandoning the project midway.

9. Complete Each Segment

Once you are done with scheduling your work, stick to the plan until it is done. Complete each segment and avoid procrastination. If you have decided to organize the closet, do it completely. Do not leave the ‘to charity’ boxes lying on the floor. One accomplished segment will boost your confidence to complete the others as well. And yes, don’t forget to reward yourself after achieving the target!
