Yes, you have your baby’s back, but who will take care of your back that is slouching a little more every day? Backache is a common health ailment, and honestly, it doesn’t wait for you to be a mother to haunt you. Simply sitting in an incorrect posture for a few hours can make you want to book an appointment for physiotherapy. But it all becomes a nightmare when you have a persistent backache and a baby to take care of. While almost every mother complains about an arched and aching back, it has less to do with the delivery and more with the activities that cause it. So if you are a mom with backache as the #number1 bane of your life, here are some parenting tips that will diminish the pain and help you maintain a better posture.

1. Carry Your Child In The Baby Carrier Properly

If you’re using a front carrier, be sure to raise the infant as high as possible. The carrier must be adjusted so the baby is close to you. Your back will appreciate the relief. When your child reaches the 20-pound mark, switch to back-carrying. Continuing to carry them in the front might cause back pain if your baby is more than the weight you can carry comfortably.

2. Don’t Bend Over When Picking Up Your Infant Off The Floor

When you have to pick your baby up from the floor, squat down and contract your abdominal muscles. Avoid raising your arms by keeping the infant close to your chest. Lift them up with the support of your legs to avoid straining your back muscles.

To begin with, sit at a desk with a supportive backrest. Bring the baby’s lips toward you instead of stooping over to make contact with them. Pillows and blankets can elevate the baby so that they are nearer to your chest. You can also use a feeding pillow to make sure your hands are free while you breastfeed. As a lot of time goes into breastfeeding, it can numb your hands.

Entertaining your child might make it easy to forget how important it is to sit up properly to avoid back discomfort. However, it’s important to pay attention to your posture and keep your neck and head up. You might spend a lot of time playing, so keep track of your posture.

Make sure your kid is near you before you begin to lift them. You won’t have to extend your arms when picking up your child. Also, avoid bending at the waist; instead, try bending at the hips. Lift the infant with your legs and your core muscles.

6. Help Your Baby Get Out Of The High Chair With Ease

Remove the tray before putting the baby in or taking them out of the chair. As a result, you won’t be strained to try to fit your kid between both the tray and the chair’s back. Ensure you check  for the safety belt and unhook it before pulling your baby.

Maintaining a straight back while moving your child’s stroller is important. If you slouch, your back muscles will be strained. Keep your posture correct while taking the stroller, and do not rest on the handle or take support from it.

8. Do Not Carry Your Child On One Hip

Holding your infant on one hip may appear more convenient and pleasant at first. However, the weight of your kid might cause an imbalance in your body, leading to back difficulties if you prefer one side. You should thus support your infant with both hands while holding them to your chest.

When changing diapers, use dining chairs above your waist to avoid leaning over. A stool or the bottom of a drawer can be used to elevate one foot for additional support. Baby equipment that is higher off of the ground is often better for your back health in the long run. For example, you may purchase a baby swing instead of a bouncer.

10. Sit In The Seat When When You Buckle Your Child Into Their Car Seat

Car seats are pretty heavy, so don’t try to carry your baby in it and then place the seat in the car. Once you are seated with your baby, begin to buckle the car seat to make sure your baby stays safe on the seat through the process.

Once you have your baby in your arms, the priorities change from you to your baby. However, it is important to realize that you can only take care of your baby when you are in optimum health.
