7 Things People Who Are Single This Christmas Need To Know
The holidays are a time of year when being single hurts the most. Everywhere you look, there are sights of couples walking hand in hand taking in the festive cheer, chatting over a warm cup of coffee, lounging in the mall thinking of what to get each other for Christmas, and even excitedly making New Year’s eve plans that sound like a lot of fun.
However, just because you’re single during this time of year is no reason to be down at all. In fact,we’re going to share with you 7 ways in which you can spend your time making it an amazing Christmas for you and others around you, and no boyfriend/girlfriend is required.
1. Give Beautiful Gifts
What does “beautiful” here mean? We’ll we’ve already covered that in an earlier article but here’s the gist. Give gifts with depth, and the best ones are things that are either explicitly coveted by the receiver, or something that they would not think to buy for themselves, but once they have it, will be of immense utility to them. Simplicity and ease of use are the key here, so plan accordingly.
2. Spend Time With Family
Sure, if you had a significant other you would be off canoodling with them in some remote unpolluted plain with a clear view of the starry sky, but the alternative isn’t that bad. In fact, it’s excellent. You have no idea how much spending time during the holidays means to family, whoever it is you end up choosing to visit, and having some delicious home cooked goodies and treats is one of the best feelings about the holidays in itself.
3. Meet Other People
Being single doesn’t mean you can’t venture out with a group of friends (whether they’re with their dates is immaterial) and have a blast. And hey, lets be clear here, you’re not the only one who’s going to be without some arm candy – there’s plenty that match that bill at any time of the year, and if they’re anything like you they’ll be out having a blast as well. We’re not promising that you’ll find love or anything, just that you’ll have an excellent time.
4. Take A Break
Sometimes we find ourselves looking forward to the holidays only for Christmas and New Year to pass by in a blur and us to be back at our desk at no time. Sure, the time was enjoyable, but it wasn’t relaxing. Or refreshing. Well, you can ensure that it is this season, by stocking up on the essentials, things to watch, things to eat, books to read, and of course, a bottle or two of good wine. Put your feet up, put the phone on silent and put the work laptop away, it’s time to unwind.
5. Follow A Passion
There’s something we all have been putting off doing because the excuses came easily. First it was that we’re too busy and during the holidays it was that we had to spend time with our SOs. We’ll it’s time to dust off that old SLR, take up that diary or get your stamp collection out of the closet. Spending time doing what you are passionate about, or generally exploring your interests, is a great way to relax over the holidays.
6. Get In Shape
Yes, we had to get this one in somewhere. It sound the antithesis of what the holidays are about – lounging around and eating nice things, but hear us out. Going for a run or hitting the gym releases dopamine and endorphins, the reaction that being in love tends to have, so it’s worthwhile on that front. From a vanity (it’s important) standpoint, healthwise and in boosting your confidence, there is no alternative to exercise, so get moving.
7. Buy Yourself Something Nice
There is no denying it; being in a relationship is expensive, especially in holiday season. There’s gifts, parties, events, clothes, movie tickets and so on and so forth – and you have to deal with exactly none of them. Save your hard earned moolah, and pick up that Xbox or flatscreen you’ve been eyeing – you’re worth it, and there’s no one there to tell you otherwise!
