5 Things Girls Talk To Each Other About Their Periods
What are ‘period talks’? If you don’t know what these are or you think that these talks are overhyped, then, well, start thinking the other way. It’s no gossip all right. It’s a way of expressing solidarity in times of distress (sob sob). Women definitely have their ‘that time of the month’ talks when they are on their period.
They are cranky, moody, and pretty much a boiling pot of emotions, to be frank. We’re sure many guys who’ve seen this avatar of their girlfriends or wives are nodding in unison (we feel you dear men as much as we feel you, women). But, one might wonder that apart from the natural process of bleeding, what exactly can women talk about their period, right? Well, you will be surprised to know that there’s a lot that goes on when Aunt Flo decides to visit. Menstruation is still a topic that women don’t really discuss openly with everyone. We jotted down five basic things that we think women usually discuss when they are on their menstrual cycles. Here it goes.
1. The ‘PMS’ Solidarity
Okay, so for those of you who are alien to the word ‘PMS’, let’s educate you all a little bit. PMS stands for premenstrual syndrome. No, no, it isn’t any serious disease as such. It’s basically a collection or let’s say a combination of all those symptoms that the women face when their period around the corner (a week or so).
We aren’t sure if your girlfriends warn you by saying, “I’m PMSing you stupid, you have to bear with me.” In addition to alerting their boyfriends and partners, they warn their own girl-gang about it. They discuss a lot about how exactly they are feeling during this phase. They talk to each other about their cravings (food cravings to be specific). They also discuss their rage and they rant out to each other about everything and anything. They discuss it in order to comfort each other and pacify each other.
2. What To Do And What Not To Do During The Periods
Forget about men, even women have no idea as to what they are supposed to do when they are on their period. We are talking about the things they can try to make themselves feel better. If you think they hit the cyberspace to find answers for these doubts, you are wrong. They talk to each other about it. “Can I work out during my periods? If yes, can I lift heavy weights?”, “Can I make love while on my period?”, “Can I drink alcohol?” And the list of questions goes on and on. They huddle up and engage in a question-answer session.
3. Tackling Aunt Flo
Obviously, men will have no idea as to which kind of pad is the latest or the best. Nor will they know the power of the period tracking app that every woman has started to use these days. If there’s one thing that women love sharing, it’s the latest news on resources that deal with menstruation. Women get pumped up when they talk about this. Which pad or tampon is the best, how to use a menstrual cup, what’s the best instant cramps reliever – they discuss it all.
4. The Aunt Flo’s Status
This is something that they might never talk to a man about. While on their periods, women usually love sharing their current status with other women. Confused?
We are referring to the women’s menstruating status – “Oh! It’s my last day today. Thank God!”, “Babe, I’m experiencing heavy flow this time”, “Yo! I think my period is going to last longer this time as I’ve been stressing a lot these days”, “Pimple alert! I have a feeling it’s ‘that time of the month’ now”, “It’s my second day. It’s going to be tough for me today.” Are you familiar with these statements? If you’re a man you definitely wouldn’t be, but if you’re a woman, you definitely are familiar.
5. There’s Enough Self-Learning That Happens
Period talk can be looked at as a very personal or intimate topic. Considering the fact that it’s a part of the menstrual cycle that’s responsible for reproduction, women always try to educate each other about it. Which is a good thing, right? Even when a woman visits a gynecologist, she is sure to share whatever new information she’s received with the rest of her girl gang. Things like when to make love during one’s menstrual cycle in order to be able to conceive or when the ‘safe zone’ is are common topics of discussion among women.
Now you know how much women talk about their period struggles, right? They are like monthly tornadoes that don’t just hit women but also every person they are closely associated with. So, if you have a sister, a girlfriend, a wife, or a mother, keep yourself well equipped to handle the major mood swings they’ll shower you with.
