5 Perks Of Having Kids With Big Age Differences

When you are a new parent, there are several things to think about and plan. Your kids teach you patience, understanding, and other skills you never thought you would have. Children can also be a great source of learning for parents. They help you understand more about yourself and the importance of keeping your inner child alive. Does this happen only when you’re parents for the first time? How does it change with your second and third child?

Many parents choose to have kids with a more considerable age difference because they think it works better for them. When parents have their second child after an age gap of 5 or more years, it gives them an advantage because their first child will be slightly older, which helps them handle newborn responsibilities much better.

We asked a bunch of experienced mothers who have kids with significant age differences to share their thoughts, and all of them said that they wouldn’t have it any other way. They shared that the significant age differences have several perks, and today, we wanted to share them with you. So, here are 5 perks of having kids with big age differences:

1. You Know More With Your Second Child

With your first child, you are nervous and anxious to get things right. You feel like you don’t know what you’re doing even though you’ve read hundreds of books about how to take care of a baby. But with your second child, you know what you’re doing. You feel more relaxed because of your experience with your first, and you can change the small mistakes you made with your first while taking care of your second child. The primary needs of a child do not change, no matter the age difference. They both need love and understanding.

2. You Have A Little Helper In Your Corner

It’s always good to have company while caring for your little one. Your first child might still need you, but they won’t need you for every single thing like your newborn. They are potty trained and busy with their friends, school, homework, and games. They are big enough to understand how to help you with small things for a newborn. So you can engage your firstborn to help out.

3. No Overlap Of Lives

With a big age difference, you know that your kids’ lives will not overlap. There won’t be a comparison in school and college, no competition for academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, which can be a huge problem for siblings. One more critical aspect of the big age difference is that they won’t date the same people!

4. Financial Responsibilities

It’s a bit easier to have more than one kid when they have a significant age difference regarding financial responsibilities. You spend a lot more money on baby essentials at the newborn baby stage, and it’s never-ending. But as they grow up, the expenses you incur reduces considerably. Plus, you have the time to save before you have another kid.

5. Cherish The Moments More

Every parent will probably agree that children grow up in the blink of an eye. With your first kid, you are so busy trying to figure what to do that you don’t necessarily cherish the little and big moments. But with your second child, you have the experience and are a little more relaxed. Therefore, you savor the little moments a lot more. The first time your baby grabs your finger, their first words and their first steps are moments you live for. You cherish them way more with your second child and relive your first child’s experience through the same moments.

Every parent has a plan in place when it comes to parenthood, except for unexpected pregnancies. But the only thing that most parents agree on is that if you want to have another baby, you shouldn’t let the ages of your other children stop you! Do you agree with us? Comment below and let us know.
