15 Reasons Why I Love Myself (And I Have More!)

Do you like competitions? Why exactly do we participate in them? Well, I’m guessing that we do so to show everyone that we are better than the other competitors, which boosts our confidence levels. But, what if we loved ourselves enough? We wouldn’t need a score at a competition to reassure us, “Yes, you’re worth it. Love yourself now.” I came across a challenge on social media (like those ice-bucket challenges) which required the participants to write a post on their social media accounts reasoning why they loved themselves. I decided to take part in the challenge, and also decided to note down not just one reason but a whole list of them (sly smile).

1. I Am Not Afraid To Be Myself

From dyeing my hair purple to being the only non-vegetarian in a vegetarian family, I am not afraid to wear my heart on my sleeve. Actually, I think it’s what I love the most about myself.

2. I Am An Organization Whiz

If you are a lazy bum who doesn’t like to clean, I might just be the answer to your prayers. I love organizing things. I keep labeling jars and aligning them as if it were a matrix in the kitchen, I find pleasure in doing it. It sure does make life easy for my roommates.

3. I Am Quick To Recognise My Faults

While it may be the case with a lot of people, I have never found myself unwilling to accept healthy criticism. It can be about my work or about my thoughts. As long as it is coming with a good intention, I don’t mind it. After all, we got no time for haters (*hairflip*)!

4. I Don’t Get Scared Easily

Living alone, traveling alone in a new city or even shifting to a new city with no career prospects — nothing fazes me out. Except for my periods, especially when they are not on time. *Facepalm*

5. I Am A Pro At Making Lists!

Being known as an organized person, the most important tool in my arsenal is the ‘list’. I love lists and list-making. So, be it a pro or a con list, a grocery list, or even a to-do list, I can do it all.

6. I Cry Funny

Okay so this is a bit weird, but I do genuinely like this about myself. Every time I cry, I produce this unusual, half pig-snort, half hyena-laugh like noise. No matter how tragic the situation is, if I am crying, I can guarantee no one else is.

7. I Can Make People Laugh

Carrying on from my previous point, I can make people laugh, quite easily. In fact, I never feel so good about me as I do when I make someone else smile. More so, if they are having a bad day. Though, sometimes it is also through toilet humor. Hey, no judgments, okay?

8. I Don’t Need Anyone Else’s Validation

I think it is quite important to realize that at the end of the day, we are all our own person. No matter how insignificant one’s achievements or problems might seem to us, given their circumstances, it can be extraordinary. Self-doubt is a condition of being human but it’s good to realize that you cannot make everyone happy.

9. I Can Enjoy The Little Things

When I was a kid, my favorite treat in the world was the orange ice candy that costs just 5 rupees. And, to this date, it remains my go-to choice for the after-dinner dessert. A kind compliment, a small smiling gesture when you see me on a sunny day, all these make my day.

10. I Care Deeply About Everyone In My Close Circle

It’s going to sound very filmy, but I take all the relationships in my life seriously. I truly believe that it is these relationships that are going to make my time on this planet worthwhile.

11. I Can Dance Like There Is No Tomorrow

If there is a dance floor somewhere, I am probably on it. I love the fact that I am not the least bit self-conscious when it comes to dancing.

12. I Can Spare A Kind Thought For Everyone I Meet

Though it was something that I had to work on, I can proudly say that I always have a kind thing to say about everyone I meet. After all, kindness begets kindness.

13. I Am A Good Plant-Parent

Though I can’t trust myself to handle a human yet, I believe I am a good and responsible plant-parent. I take great pride in the fact that I can finally keep something alive without destroying it. Besides, it also makes our planet greener.

14. I Don’t Sugar-Coat Things

Here’s the thing about sugar-coating, it curtails the truth or worse, it manages to twist the meaning. I fancy myself a social justice warrior and hence, I wouldn’t want to pretend to be sweet when, in actuality, I feel otherwise about a certain situation or a person.

15. I Never Give Up On Myself

That I managed to reach number 15 on this list is a testament to this statement! Instead of constantly picking things that I don’t like about myself, I prefer to work on my flaws. You could say that I am my own personal cheerleader!

All jokes aside, it helps to practice a little self-love these days. After all, if we don’t love ourselves, how can we expect someone else to love us? In today’s fast-paced life where people often don’t think twice before pulling others down, it helps to be kind to ourselves. If you have any other fun reasons for loving yourself, do share them in the comments section.
