7 Subtle Signs That Can Give Away Your Age

It is often said that it is rude to ask a man his salary and a woman her age. While the former statement can be labelled as sexist and obsolete, but the latter still holds true – asking a woman her age is simply not done! Women work hard to look good. Right from getting our eyebrows tweezed, going for that Brazilian wax, choosing amongst a multitude of colours and styles of clothing, picking up the right makeup, and choosing the hairdo that suits us the best – everything needs us to undergo pain.

And when ageing kicks in, we use anti-ageing lotions and hair colour to hide those signs of ageing. Being a woman is a lot of hard work, isn’t it? In trying to balance our different roles and responsibilities, we, unfortunately, miss the early signs of ageing and take it seriously only when we begin to see wrinkles and a salt and pepper mane. Do you want to know the early signs of ageing that crop up much before the wrinkles walk in? Read on to know more!

1. Ears

One of the earliest signs of ageing is the loosening of one’s earlobe and concha (cartilage between the head and ear). This sign is hard to notice, but the loss of elasticity in the earlobes sure is a sign of ageing. Sometimes wearing heavy and long earrings could also be the reason why our earlobes lose their elasticity. To avoid this, it is best to wear studs and remove them while we sleep.

2. Neck

We take good care of our face, but we often tend to neglect the area right under our face, i.e. our neck. The market is flooded with cosmetics that can make our face and neck look younger. The neck region is devoid of fat tissues and hence, it can sag and get wrinkled faster, which is why it is important to keep the face and neck nourished and supple. Using a good moisturizer for the neck is as vital as that for the face. A firm neck can also be achieved by doing face and neck exercises.

3. Forehead

Trying to make one’s forehead look younger can be a futile attempt. Using fillers or Botox injections are ways to make the skin tight, but it can also make one’s forehead appear flat and distort its shape. To avoid the forehead from getting too old, arrest the first signs by using a good anti-ageing lotion. Nourishing and moisturizing one’s face along with regular face exercises also helps to keep these signs at bay for a longer time.

4. Eyebrows

When a person is young, the eyebrows are high and sharp. But when ageing begins, the brow ridges begin to droop and the distance between eyes and eyebrows lessens. With age, this would make a person’s face seem harsh. However, to arrest these signs earlier in their lifecycle is a lot easier. Regular face exercises can help.

5. Lips

The vertical line in the centre of the upper lip called the philtrum is the most attractive part of a woman’s lip. It makes the lips look more expressive and beautiful. As a woman ages, the philtrum fades as the skin in this area smoothens. Fortunately, it is not difficult to keep the philtrum away from fading. Performing lip muscle exercises every day will help to keep it longer.

6. Hands

Just as our neck, hands too do not have fat tissues and that makes them age faster too. While there aren’t known methods to reverse the ageing on one’s hands. We could postpone ageing by moisturising our hands regularly. A regular workout that includes an arm workout would help keep those arms firm.

7. Facial Contour

With age, the facial muscles begin to loosen up. This would end up changing one’s facial contour. To keep ageing from striking too soon, it is good to exercise one’s facial muscles regularly. Facial exercises are not time-consuming and easy to perform; hence, they can be easily included in one’s daily workout regimen.

Ageing is a natural body process, just like breathing! We cannot stop ageing even if we want to and it is a continuous process. What we could change is our perspective towards it, by ageing as gracefully as we could and by adopting a lifestyle that delays this process as far as we can push. A healthy diet, a good amount of water intake, sticking to our workout regime, abstaining from smoking and alcohol, and moisturising our skin regularly are ways to keep ageing away for a good amount of time.

Now that you know how the early signs of ageing look like, I am sure you would take care of your skin and keep the wrinkles from cropping up too soon, wouldn’t you?
