10 Skincare Struggles Every Girl Has In Summer
Pretty bikinis, sunny beaches, and breezy cocktails – that’s summertime in a gist! Beautiful as it may be though, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies. Definitely not for your skin! So, despite the confidence boost you get in those flowy dresses, your skin suffers the brunt of sleeveless tops and short hemlines.
In that spirit, here are 10 inherently Indian summer skincare troubles that leave a mark (quite literally!) on every Indian girl:
1. Tanning
Let’s start with the obvious one. Tanning is an inescapable eventuality in summer. Which means, as badly as you want to go sleeveless, you still have to cover yourself up in scarves and everything – just so that you can avoid looking like a piece of marble cake that’s half chocolate and half vanilla! Oh, and there’s dullness too, which is tanning’s partner in crime!
2. Melting Makeup
A phenomenon only experienced in the cruel Indian summer and characterized by extreme embarrassment, melting makeup is the stuff nightmares are made of! No matter how many hours you spend in front of the mirror perfectly contouring your face, the sun will ruin it in a jiffy. Even if it’s waterproof!
3. Super Dull, Lifeless Skin
As oily, grimy, and sweaty your skin gets, it still somehow ends up looking dull and lifeless instead of shiny with all that grease! The deadly combo of the sun and the heat deprive your skin of moisture, giving it a zombie-esque appearance that’s far from as cool as it looks on TV. Your only solution? A nice bleach!
4. Dark Spots
The harsh rays of the sun are capable of much more damage than you give them credit for. See those discolored blotches on your face and hands? Yep, that’s the work of the sun. And, yes, you can hide the ones on your face with makeup, but what about the ones on your hands? Even if you wear long sleeves, there’s no way to hide them entirely. (Sigh.)
5. Uneven Skin Tone
Remember the marble cake patterned skin we talked of earlier? That is what is more formally known as an uneven skin tone! So what you end up with are different shades of skin, with your typical range varying from vanilla fair to dark chocolate, depending on the body part! Not a pretty sight.
6. The Need For Frequent Pedicures
Ah, winter time. The season where you can be your lazy self and not bother about getting a pedicure ever. Who needs them when your feet are cozily ensconced in the comfort of pretty socks? Unfortunately, summer is a whole other story as your feet are exposed to dust, grime, and the effects of the weather all the time. The result? Loads and loads of money spent on pedicures!
7. Stains Of Sweat
The visible sweat beads and lines are not the problem. Those are perfectly healthy in fact, and the natural reaction to the heat. But the sweat stains and the accompanying body odor? Oh my god! If there’s anything that can ruin your mood further due to the excruciating heat, it’s that disgusting yellow splotch on the underarm area of your white T-shirt. As for the body odor, could there be a better date-with-bae-spoiler on this planet? Nope!
8. The Pressure Of A Hot Summer Bod
We’ve all been there! With summer, the desire to wear skimpy clothes is not the only one that strikes. There’s the desire of achieving fitness goals too! After all, with great summer clothes comes great responsibility – and stress, which, coincidentally, isn’t good for the skin! But just like the summer season itself, the zeal to workout doesn’t last long. Winter comes again with its heavy cover-all clothes and food remains your absolute favorite bestie!
9. The Effects Of Sweat And Pollution On The Skin
Sadly, in India, it’s not just summer that’s at work at ruining your skin. It’s joined by its favorite accomplice – pollution! This means that tanning and uneven skin tone are just tiny problems. The real problem is skin that’s ruined and deprived of all life by the combined action of the pollution and the sun. Oh, and by the way, this leads to those very special summer breakouts too. Like the one on the tip of your nose!
10. Sweat = Body-Shaped Prints Everywhere!
Whether you’re leaning against the door in the train or sitting at the bus stop waiting to catch your ride to work (or college), you’re going to leave behind an essence of you the minute you move. Yes, we are talking about the ubiquitous problem of sweat prints everywhere! And that’s not the only issue sweat causes. It makes your skin stick to the seat so bad, you think your skin will peel off the moment you get up. Plus, the hot car seat. Literal burn!
Summer is a long, long struggle, no doubt. But you can keep your skin healthy and minimize, as well as even reverse, the damage caused by ensuring you follow a proper skincare routine. So don’t forget that sunscreen and moisturizer. Happy summer to you!
