Sonakshi Sinha Opens Up About Her Body And Weight Loss Transformation
She’s the sassy lass of Bollywood who has acting in her blood. She has always had a Dabangg demeanor and has handled the limelight with equal grace and poise. We are talking about the simple Sona, a.k.a Sonakshi Sinha.
Last seen in the comedy sequel Happy Phir Bhag Jaayegi, this Bollywood beauty has come a long way since her debut in the superhit Bollywood cop movie, Dabangg. Despite the fact that her career graph has been registering steady growth since then with her stellar performances in movies like Lootera, Akira, etc. the actress had to put up with a lot of flak owing to her weight issues.
While the limelight can be pretty unforgiving given the close scrutiny it invites, Sonakshi hasn’t buckled under the pressure and charted her own course. Off late, she’s been seen on her social media profile, sporting a lean and mean avatar. And we couldn’t be more happy for her, hence, we decided to chart her transformation journey to celebrate her fantastic fitness journey (and for us to feel motivated to hit the gym, once in a while).
She Lost 30Kgs For Dabangg
Sonakshi made her debut in the movie, Dabangg, in the year 2010. Before venturing into films, this bubbly star worked as a costume designer for Bollywood movies. In spite of being the Bollywood superstar Shatrughan Sinha’s kid, she chose to remain a passive observer of the industry. But all that was about to change. Sonakshi was signed on to play the role of Rajjo, the female lead in the movie Dabangg. She said that in order to prepare for that role she had to shed around 30kgs. Yes, you read that right, 30kgs.
She is said to have been spotted by Salman Khan while she was working as an usher on Lakmé Fashion Show. He advised her to try for movies and to get in shape. She reportedly took two years to lose the weight. She said in an interview then that it was her sheer willpower and hard work that made her achieve this massive feat. She also acknowledged that it was her co-star, Salman Khan who kept her motivated. Her workout routine then consisted of doing weight training four to five times a week, along with cardio. She also said that she ate small meals every 3 hours to keep her going (1).
Her Leaner Avatar Had Been Long In The Making
After her debut went on to become the highest earner of the year, Sonakshi became the flavor of the town with all the big directors wanting to work with her (2). She wowed everyone with her nuanced performances in movies like Lootera.
While this was happening on the work front, Sonakshi was being roasted on the social media for weight. There was even a nasty rumor that young actors weren’t willing to work with her as she apparently looked older than her age. This and other comments regarding her broad forehead made her the favorite target of body-shamers. But Sonakshi took it in her stride.
And our girl never let it get to her. She continued on her fitness journey all this while. A self-confessed foodie, she told a leading daily that she believes in doing a diet that is doable. She swears by her ghar ka khana, with her average lunch containing whole grains, vegetables, pulses, and fresh fruits (3).
She’s Bringing The Sexy Back
Ten years after her debut, Sonakshi has managed to survive the rat race. She was seen giving us major fitness goals on her social media by posting multiple videos of what seemed like very vigorous workouts. She recently posted a photo on her social media where her rock-hard abs were on display, and aptly captioned it “If I can do it, you can too”.
In an interview, the actress discussed her attitude towards food and weight loss by explaining that she has a fairly basic diet that includes lots of ghar ka khana. She also said that she doesn’t have any particular cheat days as she doesn’t deprive herself of her favorite foods. She has them in moderation. She believes that one should be happy if one is dieting. She also said that she doesn’t want to project an image that is unattainable. She prefers a workout routine based on cardio and Pilates (4).
Her attitude towards weight and body issues can be aptly surmised from a tweet she posted on her Twitter account. In this tweet, she said that one doesn’t have to be a particular size to feel good about oneself and that a number on the weighing scale can’t define you. Well, we can’t say we disagree. You, go girl!
I look forward to sharing my fitness journey with you all at #futureofwellnessindia on Nov 17th, 12:30 pm at the World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade Mumbai! See you there! pic.twitter.com/ObZZrJvn5Q
