Every new diet promises to help you lose your weight faster and keep you healthy, but the diet obsessors know it very well that the key to a healthy and fit body is eating a whole lot of kale – and it’s not at all fun.

But, here’s good news for all those who are obsessed with their diet. What if the mantra to a healthy body turns out to be carbs?

Well, that’s true. According to the recent study by researchers, Japanese are the healthiest people in the world, and when compared to others, their life expectancy is the second highest. The most amazing part is the obesity rate of the country is just less than four percent!

So, what’s the reason behind their stellar health?

The Answer – Their high-carb diet that is grain-heavy.

As per the studies at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Tokyo, people who follow Japan’s recommended dietary guidelines are less likely to get affected by symptoms such as stroke or any other cardiovascular diseases by almost 15 percent.

The Japanese traditional diet mostly includes soybean products, grains, and fish, and is very low in fats. During the study, the researchers interviewed around 80.000 Japanese about their diet and lifestyle habits and tracked their health record for around 15 years. And out of them, the ones who followed the traditional nutritional guidelines, with grains being the staple were the healthiest with higher life expectancy and lower risk of diseases. The diet also promises a lower risk of mortality.

They usually prefer unprocessed food and restrict the intake of sugar and seed oils. They also lead an active lifestyle. Along with this, it was also noticed that the average Japanese walks around 7,000 steps a day (which is a bit more than American’s average steps, i.e. around 5,000 steps).

So, just slurp some noodles and take a few more steps – and you’re on board towards a healthy diet. The next time someone questions you about having grains for lunch, just tell them that you’re on a Japanese diet!
