Why There Is No Such Thing As The ‘Perfect Height’

“Happiness makes up in height what it lacks in length” – Robert Frost

Truer words have never been uttered before. If there’s one biological factor many tend to worry about when it comes to their career, or them choosing a partner, or as simple as getting a picture clicked, it has to be one’s height. For centuries, we’ve been ridiculing the ones who aren’t “tall enough”. We question their abilities physically and even their achievements in life. But look around you peeps, not everybody is of the same height, right? So how is it that we find ourselves in a position to mark a perfect height for someone else? We cannot because there is really nothing as such.

It is said that taller men and women are associated to be more healthy, intelligent, and dominant in life. It’s said that they end up earning more. And also that “dominance” and “greatness” are two traits which are often associated with them (1). But, on the other hand, no matter what your height is, you can’t make it big in life and achieve your dreams until and unless it’s you work hard for it. It’s the hard work and sheer perseverance that will take you closer to your dreams.

In today’s world, I find myself looking up to many inspirational personalities who’ve carved out a niche for themselves in this competitive world and stand tall in a world full of people of various heights. These personalities will show you why there is no such thing as a perfect height. If you’re wondering who, here’s a small list of people whom I admire and yes, they have made their not-so-tall height perfect for themselves. They are musicians, actors, fighters, and even leaders. They are more famous than their tall counterparts. And yes, they are uber cool, successful women and men, irrespective of their height. Read on.

1. Peter Dinklage

Height: 4’5 (135cm)

We all know him as Tyrion Lannister from the popular series Game of Thrones. This guy has set an example for all those who belong to the kingdom of dwarfism. He’s a living example of how one can get rich, famous, and find love in someone as wonderful as Erica Schmidt who is 5’6 (168cm). If he could do it, then why can’t you?

2. Salma Hayek

Height: 5’2 (157cm)

She is one of the most dazzling actresses that Hollywood has ever produced (not to forget she is a lead actress). She isn’t as tall as the other women of the tinsel town. It’s not easy to be 52 and still be hot as hell. Her performance in the 2002 film Frida, as the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was her breakthrough performance till date.

3. Kailash Kher

Height: 5’3 (160cm)

In an industry ruled by tall men, Kailash is considered to be one of the shortest singers. A self-taught singer, Kailash’s earthy voice has won him several awards including a Padma Shri award (fourth highest Indian National Honour) in the year 2017. He has always tried to maintain and put light on Indian culture through his music.

4. Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll

Height: 5’2 (156cm)

Don’t mistake her height for her voice. She might short a little short, but her voice stands tall in the list of musicians. This Colombian beauty, Shakira, has made heads turn around the world with both her singing and her belly dancing moves. At the age of 40, she still continues to look younger than her age. Won’t you agree?

5. Sachin Tendulkar

Height: 5’5 (165cm)

He is fondly called the Little Master and is often referred to as the God of Cricket. He never let his height undermine his talents against the 6 footers (2). Shane Warne, former Australian Spinner had once said, “Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar was my greatest opponent.” Most of the bowlers used to get scared every time they faced Sachin Tendulkar on the batting front; such was his power on the cricket field.

If you ever feel like you lack the “perfect height” and what you are isn’t enough, just keep this list handy so that you know that there are thousands of cooler people out there who have diminished the whole concept of a perfect height. We need to stop paying heed to “not so tall, but not too short” concepts. Everybody is special irrespective of their height.

Let me know in the comments below if you happen to disagree. Just be you irrespective of your physical attributes.
