6 Things Kids Do That Might Look Naughty But Aren’t

As parents, it can get hard to figure out when our kids are actually being naughty or are just doing something perfectly normal as per their own “childlike” perspective. And as adults, we also need to understand that we can’t expect the normal “mature” behavior from our little ones. After all, they look at everything from their innate, unguarded innocence. So, all we can possibly do is try and understand the reasoning behind their behavior. And, that in turn, might help us get through to our kids better.

Here, at MomJunction, we want to help you with just that. So, here are some of those moments when it just seems like they are being naughty but they actually aren’t:

1. Ever-Changing Rules Bother Them

As grownups, it is important that you make some rules and stick to them. For instance, if you ask your kids what they wish to eat one day and force them to eat healthy porridge the next day, they are bound to throw a couple of tantrums. So, what you need to ensure is that there are a set of rules. While these rules may vary on the basis of whether it is a weekday or a weekend, there is a set pattern to decide that too. What kids love is consistency and anything inconsistent troubles them.

2. They React To Your Mood

More often than not, children are aware of your changing moods. And, their reactions may be based on your mood and behavior. So, if you are going through a negative emotion, chances are that your little one will know how you are feeling. And, the same will reflect in how they behave. So, if you are feeling low, take some time out for yourself and sort out your feelings. And, once you feel better, you can spend time with your little angels.

3. Play, Play And Play

Believe it or not, playing is one essential need for kids when they are growing up. And, this should not be ignored. So, while you might think that your little one is just being naughty when they jump around during their mealtime, they are not doing it on purpose. It is more like them asking you slyly to come and join them. Have you noticed how they laugh out in joy if they catch you doing something silly? What you can do is just play with them enough throughout the day so that your little one feels satisfied.

4. Love To Carry Out Plans

You have been on the beach for four hours and now want to head out to a different place. But, your little ones are still not complete with their sandcastle. So, they throw a tantrum. Or, they try to cut their own hair or paint the walls. They are not doing it to rebel; they are simply fulfilling their creative urges. So, try not to get too upset about it.

5. Can’t Keep The Big Emotions Inside

Kids don’t know how to hide really huge emotions like the way grownups do. At times, they may end up crying out loud. Also, remember that their big feelings can be invoked by something pretty simple, like not getting what they had really wished for. In such a scenario, it might be better to let your kids be and not punish them for their outbursts.

6. Physical Needs Can Affect Their Mood

As grownups, even we succumb to our physical needs such as sleep deprivation or hunger pang. At least, with experience, we learn how to deal with these emotions. But, it is a little more complicated when it comes to kids. They don’t know how to express when they feel feverish or hungry. So, as adults, it becomes our responsibility to become more cognitive around them.
