5 Things Every Mom Needs To Hear From Their Kids

If you’ve been a mom for a while, you’d know one thing about kids — they talk. In truth, there’s a lot of things about kids that make them who they are. They are a beacon of hyperactivity, and that makes them a lot of things. And, on top of all that, they talk.

Times when they do their talking, it’s often unexpected. You could be out on a doctor’s appointment or in the presence of strangers when their “tap” starts running. And they wouldn’t stop until their word bank is empty — it never is.

We love to hear our kids talk. But there are certain things we’d love to hear them say to us more often. Instead of telling people how we make them do chores all day without rest while we sleep it off on the couch, here’s what we like to hear instead:

You Don’t Have to Do That

As a mother, your mind is ever wondering, thinking of all the ways you can make your child’s life sweeter, easier. You’re obsessed and overwhelmed by this, and it keeps you busy all the time. We’ve been there. But, get this; kids don’t expect or want all the things we do every time.

Yes, some things have grown on them. But many of the things you try to accomplish, they just don’t need. You know what they would prefer to have most in these situations, your undivided attention.

Kids love to spend quality time with their parents. So, instead of spending time doing something your child might not need, spend time doing something that matters.

You Look Good, Mama

We love to look our best and perfect for the occasion. We never want to be caught “off-guard.” Now, this attitude is normal when, say, you have to attend an event, or maybe you’re going to work.

However, when you’re around your kids, the make-ups and perceived mess of your hair or clothes don’t matter. If you give it a try, you might be surprised to see they even like you more in your natural state. And that could be the reason you don’t get so many compliments from them after spending hours trying to look “perfect.”

Our kids don’t want us to look perfect around them; they simply want us because they love us the way we are.

Stop

If you think your kids don’t take note of everything happening around the home, then you’ve got it all wrong. So wrong. Kids notice everything; they see everything. It’s how they know there’s tension between you and daddy even when they didn’t catch you fighting or yelling. They can smell it.

So, when you work 24/7 trying to cover all bases, they know. And they know that you’re tired. They also know that you can’t stop yourself because, well, you’re the world’s greatest mom.

But you know what they want more than anything — rest. They want their mom to stop everything she’s doing and rest for as long as necessary. Also, if only you’d take time to teach them, they’d love it so much because they’d finally be able to keep you from working yourself to a frenzy.

Take Your Advice

Take a step back and evaluate yourself. Look at the countless pieces of advice you’ve given your children on how to live, and see if you follow them yourself. When we tell our kids one thing and do another, they always notice.

Nothing humbles a parent more than their child dishing out the advice they gave them.

I Need Consequences

You probably don’t know this, but kids want limits. At their young age, acting out is a cry for help. And age doesn’t change this. Kids want attention and help, especially at times when they don’t know how to express themselves using words.

Kids love to talk. When they are not doing it in words, they’re doing it in their actions. Try not to get too caught up in other activities that you don’t hear when they communicate.
